Default I'm back! And a question on a fix for slipped liners

So I'm on Land Rover #8 an 03 discovery. I but it fix the cracked exhaust manifold and have a tick when hot, I'm fairly certain it's a liner. No coolant loss, but I'm not starting a thread for diagnosing.

Id like to know why instead of "pinning" the liner, we can't use a little JB weld on it at the bottom of the cylinder......

ideas?

More than likely your tick is oil starvation at the top end. Walked cam bearing, cracked oil pump gear, or overall out of tolerance parts.

Try bringing the temps down first, then try using an engine flush.

Just want to throw a question while liners are involved here. Any body knows how much clearance from the piston when its all the way down and to the bottom of the liner? Also, what is the diameter of the piston? Anybody? Thanks

JB weld is an epoxy. It doesn't actually weld anything. Essentially a glorified glue. It will end terribly for your engine when it breaks off and jams into something at 3k RPM.

There is an alternative to pinning the liner. That is welding the liner. You still have to drill the same, but them you fill the home with weld instead of inserting a bolt.

You can do anything you like. That will not work though.

Nobody really knows. He's floated back in for a few days on a couple of occasions, but has pretty much been gone for like three or four years now.

I say good riddance. Don't get me wrong, he was hugely helpful every once in a while, but he was also way too "my way or the highway" when it came to things he disagreed with. And the places he was hugely helpful, we have people that are just as helpful now.
