A 2" lift should suffice Matt as the higher the truck lift the higher the CoG and also then you'll start to wear out UJ's/driveshafts quicker also the autobox and diffs. Take the 'conservative' view first and see how you fare first. Many guys on here have mega experience in offroading etc.

I'm planning on a 2" lift, but want front and rear steel bumpers and a winch.
I want to know if medium springs sag noticeably under bumper weight. Or, if heavy springs will make for a rough ride, too firm, and be overkill even with the bumper weight. I'm not hauling any weight in the truck.
I'm thinking medium springs would be ok??
Opinions?
To the OP, I think this question applies to you wanting a 3" lift also.

A lot of good advice already.

You'd be surprised how much your rover will go through as it is....especially with CDL engaged.

2" lift with tires will add, for sure. Since ground clearance is the biggest issue while off-roading of any serious nature. Added 2" lift and 265/75's to mine, and after adding steel bumper, recovery points, 11500 winch (steel rope), skid-plate and brush guard...she sits about where it started up front. Going to add newer springs, soon, hopefully.

If you are just going to do some mild wheeling, tires and a lift should be fine. Although, when you wheel it...there is always the potential for scratches or dents.

Brian.

X1 .......... it'll never look as 'pretty' as a stocker after offroading for a while (brush scratches etc) but you seriously need to consider where you go and avoid narrow lanes and rocks, even small ones. Diff clearance is the major issue so that's why I use my ageing 1995 SWB Pajero 2.8 TD on cheapo fat AT tires (33 10.5 R15) as it also has 40-50mm lift as standard.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think my best route would be to do all the maintenance as stated previously but keep her completely stock except for a 2" lift and larger tires, and get a beater truck for fun.

Sorry but.
Get LR3 or LR4.
Engines are much better as there are no sleeves to drop and head gaskets are better.

If you want to eventually have to change head gaskets and you promise yourself
you will LOVE doing it.

Then by all means buy that D2

Haha I loved doing my D2 head gaskets in 2012.
Would I love it now?
Nope
