Info. needed- tool list
(2) problems with my 2003 w/ secondary air
- Leaking valve cover gaskets
- Cylinder 6 missing after getting code read.
Have new set of wires, plugs, intake gasket- need to order both valve cover gaskets.
How long do coil packs last? Will I need a new set at 50K (current mileage)?
What tools are needed to complete these problems and is there any directions on how to complete it?
Thanks-

Tech manual set is in the free RAVE download below and elsewhere on this forum. Tools for this type of work are standard stuff, a torque wrench is always a must, as are "wobble sockets" for those hard to reach spaces. Coil packs can easily last 100K or more, I think the ones on my D1 at 175K are original. If this is a new "trail" for you, suggest you take lots of photos as you go along, to help everything get back in the right place. Might consider each bolt being stuck into cardboard and marked as to where it came from. You will need some sealant for the gaskets, appropriate temperature. The intake (valley pan) gasket is the most demanding, are you sure it needs to be changed?

Great advice w/pictures and cardboard labeling etc. Also good to know that the coils should be okay as the thought of adding $250.00 to this task is something I prefer to avoid at this time. I figured that the intake should come out to reach the bolts to remove the valve covers when replacing the valve cover gaskets. When I first bought the plugs/wires from A.B. the salesman mentioned buying the intake gasket for the job and so I did. This all sat in a box for the past 10-12k miles. I was going to do the swap at ~38k miles but decided to post pone it until some codes posted. Here I am at 50K and the codes finally lit up.
