I found my 03 with 90k for 4k, also in GA. Had to buy new tires, MTs and added a CDL.

I agree with jafir, 2003 is a touch and go year. I still think 6 grand with that mileage is too much. Message me your number and I will call you.

got my 01 with 110k for 3G then dumped 1k into it.. (and most of that was for not listening to the people of this board).. look to disco mikes high mileage mntnce.. if theres no record of some of these things being done then your gonna have to get to them soon.. and that goes for any truck with high mileage

Here is a deal, I will sell you my '03 with a new drive shaft and transmission for $3,000 it has 140,000 miles on it. Drives like a dream now.

Anyway, my advice, go buy a toyota, or anything but a Land Rover with over 100,000 miles on it. Land Rover makes some of the best vehicles on the road, it is just unfortunate that they did not make most of them to last. If you want to spend $6000 on a vehicle there are a lot better options out there.

If you truly believe a LR is the best vehicle for you, you HAVE GOT TO MAKE SURE it has been maintained the way DISCO MIKE maintains his (it is very hard to find one like that), otherwise it will be a money pit.

Just my $0.02.

So I owned a 2004 DII. The motor blew at 844 miles.... had tranny problems... I ended up selling it back to dealer.... I still had my 2000 DII.. and I still have it.. I found that I had MUCH less problems with my older DII ( 4.0 L engine) than the newer 4.6 L engine....every Land rover is different.... But you REALLY should have this truck looked over, because they can be very expensive to maintain..... Good luck with your purchase!!

I think $6K for that disco is way too high considering the repair cost, but I'm a bit of a cheapie about cars.

For that kinda money, look around the southeast and ship it home, you'll get a better deal and not have a car with 8 new england winters and road salt all over it.
Cool----thanks man, I will consider. You said it "runs like a dream", but in your signature you say "a work in progress". That confused me a little. Do you mean it needs repair work? Or do you mean you are starting the progress of customizing it, etc?

Ha, ALL of my vehicles are "works in progress". Re: the rover, it was kinda dirty from PO, so I replaced carpet, had headliner re-done, and a few other things like replacing the boot around the e-brake and the transfer case.

IMHO, anytime you buy a car of this age and origin, you should just expect to have to do a few things to it. I love the rover, but i also have a shop at work where I can do repairs, and frankly, I, and most of the other members on this forum, enjoy working with our hands and solving problems. It is just part of ownership that things are going to need fixing. If you want a trouble-free car, go buy a new toyota.

That being said, I would hunt around for a bargain on one. I've bought and either sold or lost 3 of these vehicles in the past 18 months, and have had the best luck with ones from private sellers. I want to see it dirty, I want to know where the leaks are, and want to check fluids and seals. Dealers around here know they leak, so they power wash everything to hell and back, and all they keep saying is "it's clean, it's clean".

I'd take a guys dirty rover over a soccer-mom trade in any day of the week.

Mechanically, it needed very little - just preventive maintenance that should be done to any car.

Ok, I'll shut up now. But please don't pay $6K for one that needs repair. That's absurd.

disco 2's with less than 100k are damn near impossible to find these days. i don't think the 04 is a good deal if the tranny is bad but if its fine then i think its ok.

i bought my 00 with 196k on it with no service records :/ but they must have just been tossed because nearly everything works and it drives great. i did change out the diff and transfer case fluids last night and they had been in there for awhile.

take the 04 to a mechanic for a pre purchase inspection.

My 2003 Discovery was $8K last year. I had to have it; my mechanic has assured me the car is in good shape but needed some minor things fixed. Tune up (w/wires $900, paasenger side window regulator $300, intermittent wipers $150. Now it drives like a dream. The visibility is great, once you get in it's comfortable and I enjoy not having to rent or borrow a truck when I want to make a spontanious purchase. I seldom have more than 1 passenger so space is abundant. I only wish gas wasn't over $4 a gallon.
