Default initiating a EVAP leak test

Am getting intermittent P0455 code (SES). D2 with 4.6L...2003 model. 70K on it.

Anyone know if the ECU allows scan tools to initiate the leak test on the vehicle? I'm assuming that this test would
perform a close of the purge vent solenoid before doing the test....

Using an autel 619 scantool. Looking for persons who've gone down this road for pointers.

thx for any insight.

What about a smoke test? There are YouTube videos on making your own smoke machine for fairly cheap.

yep...that is my next course of action. watched a couple of videos on doing the test. do you know how to close the vent solenoid at the
charcoal canister? some scan tools (likely big bucks) can do this....mine no bueno.

would just putting a stopper in the exit hole in the hose end from it do the trick?

When I have done smoke tests, I take a plastic cover from an old MAF and put a brass fitting through that. I took a harbor freight pump and tapped a cigar to the input and the output to the brass fitting and put the ~4" plastic plug in the maf and pumped away. $10 all in and works great. I am not sure you need to do anything w the solenoids, at least I have not heard of anyone else doing anything w them.
