I'm not sure why I didn't think of installing engine bay lights sooner. The kit was very nice, came with 2 round LED lights and all the wiring/hardware required for the install. They fit nicely on the inside lip at the top of the hood. Being at an angle they point away from your eyes, directly at the engine. As you can see in the photos, they provide excellent coverage.
Here to say thanks and I'm waiting on the same setup now myself I need to do a bit of work on the battery cables and will wire up the lights at the same time.
Sorry...apparently LRF only notifies me about posts I don't care about.
v2 of this install involves using a hood switch to control the ground so they'll illuminate automatically when I open the hood, BUT can still use the switch to turn them off as needed. I was originally going to use the existing hood switch, but was unsure if the gauge of the connectors/wiring would be sufficient ground.
I was able to fish the wiring under the hood insulation using a glow rod. Here's how I connected the wiring:
Just need to add a gas strut(s) to hold up the bonnet instead of the factory strut!
Nice to see lots of forum-recommended mods under there -- inline thermostat, Carrs4x4 intake tube, and do I see a PCV mod as well?
Yes, yes, yes...all the mods. I've considered gas struts, but was a little concerned that they'd get in the way when working on the engine from the side. I'm sure I'll add them one day.
I would keep the stock strut and the gas ones are usually quite easy to pop off if you needed to work in the back (coil packs...). But for anything in the front or if like me is under the hood everytime off-road to air back up seems worth it. That said I need to do this lol.

where did you get those power blocks with the 2 threaded connections (forgot the name)?
