Default hey...

Hey there, any chance of some close up pictures of the inside of the oil pum gear housing and the gears? I am currious as to how smooth they are on the inside as no one has been able to give me a answer.

Thanks Chris

In the interest of sharing alternative mounting options, attached are a couple pics of mine. I used the cyberdyne digital gage in green with a black bucket housing. Got it all from summit racing. I set the low pressure warning point at 15 psi. It flashes the number at anything below 15 psi, and then scrolls "Lo" when it gets to 5 psi and below.

I mounted mine low and out of the way, as I did not want anything to take away from the appearance of the dash. I replace one of the bolts holding the dash trim peice with a longer bolt, so I could mount the bracket.

It can be viewed perfectly through the space in the steering wheel while driving, but is very low profile and out of the way.

For the sender, I did the drill and tap method on the extra plug. It wasn't difficult, but looking back I'd probably order the adapter and wait a couple days.

Luckily my '03 with 93K has great oil pressure. 50psi on the highway and 20 psi warm idle.

Enjoy.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life..

Just wanted to say Thank You for the writeup and pics with special thanks to bosshogt for putting up with my harrassing PM's. This tutorial was instrumental in me getting this project completed. I have all the wiring done and working on moving the speaker up a little and my wife is using a heat gun to shape the single gauge pod that we purchased.

One note: I purchased a Cyberdyne green oil pressure gauge and the adapter did not mate up with the threads on the sending unit that came with the cyberdyne gauge. I ended up still using the adapter but I purchased the tap and die mentioned earlier on in this tutorial and drilled completely through the adapter and rethreaded it. Then it screwed right on just fine.

Thanks again..

I'm glad you got it working. It took me about 2 weeks of tinkering to figure out the smoothest way to mount the sending unit. I figured that cheapo clear tubing that I saw on some other guage setups was too risky for my liking. Now I think my sending unit has started to fail. I'm having Cyberdyne send me a new one, just to rule that out.

Default Screwing the sender into the M20 Adapter

I'm planning on installing my GlowShift oil pressure gauge setup this weekend. I've got everything I need.

I just tried test fitting the oil pressure sender supplied by GlowShift into the M20x1.5 to 1/8" NPT adapter per the OP's instructions.

From what I can tell, it doesn't screw in easily - I went in about two threads with reasonable twisting effort before backing it out again. I don't think I could screw it in without two crescent wrenches. For those that have done this with the adapter, what have you found as far as the sender's resistance to being threaded into the adapter?

Clearly, I don't want to strip any threads, and I'm not sure if I'm being prudent or overly cautious.

You're using the 1/8 PT adaptor similar to the ebay link at the top of this thread? It's actually a tad off from the sensor from Glowshift. I chased the threads of the adaptor with a 1/8" NPT tap... Works much better that way.

Thanks for the reply! Does this look like the right tap to buy to adjust the threads?
