Thanks Alex! It's K&N. I was going to do 15w through the winter, but it's not hard to change oil so I am going to just save the oil, and seasonally change.

Fyi, not sure about your part of the country, but the wix filters here are much cheaper than the K&N and equal quality. They don't have the handy hex but at the end but they shouldn't be tight enough to utilize it anyway lol.

Napa gold filters are also at the top do the filtration list.

In my neck of the woods Oreilly's has the WIX for about the same as a K&N or Mobil1 cost at Wal-Mart. Since oil is cheaper at Wal-Mart I just grab everything at the same place.

Any filter is good except FRAM.. it might as well have single ply TP in it for filtration IMHO.

What number do you use? Is it larger like the K&N 3001 or mobil 301?

The Wix # is 51515 and Napa Gold # is 1515 (that's a Wix).
And they are the same size as the larger K&N HP-3001.
Wix also has a 51515XP for use with synthetic oil. Worth the few bucks more?.... your call.

I am not married to paying more, and I am a big fan of NAPA. Their air filters are exactly the same filter the dealership sells.

The date June 20, 2013 just above, is the date this Blog was first started,
Saw it here here last year and of much of info it contains is dated further back. Blog is from an anonymous source/writer and all info is in his chosen formats with no documented lab reports.

Many just use the oil that gives us a warm/fuzzy feeling and have never experienced the tick. If it suddenly starts ticking regularly after a year of so of ownership it's not likely to be the oil we have been using.

I've seen people say here for years that Fram filters are not a good choice, but does that apply to all the Frams? They make at least three different versions - the basic filter, an ultra guard filter and a high mileage filter I think. Does anyone here have any information about the ultra guard or the high mileage Fram filters?

I've used Fram filters for many years on a ton of different vehicles...I can't remember ever having any issues with them?? Not sure what the beef is? I think I'd rather run a Fram then a store brand filter? I run the Mobile 1 filter on the Rover, I hate the cost though...
