Just bought my first Disco!!
So far I love it. The previous owner was Fosters Beer, and they used it for those ads with bikini blondes on the fenders. Well, those babes musta lost the manual, because the car has none.
I have a little weird red light in the instrument cluster that comes on after I drive for a while. It's in the shape of a sprocket, and there's a tiny thermometer in the middle.
Because it's red, it's probably not a happy light. My best guess is transmission temp. But I got it just driving home on a cool evening with no hills to climb or trailer hooked up. It came on, then off, then on more and more.
Anybody know about that little light?

Most likely your warning light is overheated transfer case / transmission. Check fluid levels in each. You'll need the manual for the transfer case.
In our tech sections you will find lists of things to do with "new-2-u" Rovers.

Transmission oil temperature - RED

Illuminates as a bulb check when
the starter switch is turned to
position ‘II’ and extinguishes after
3 seconds approx. If the light illuminates while
driving, the gearbox oil temperature is too high
(most likely to occur in very hot weather during
continuous high speed driving, or whilst towing
heavy loads on steep inclines or if the parking
brake has been applied while driving).
If the light illuminates, reduce speed. If the light
remains on, stop the vehicle and allow the
gearbox to cool. Do not drive until the light has
extinguished. (Depending on the ambient
temperature and the carrying loads imposed on
the vehicle, it may take several minutes before
