Just bought a second Disco & need some help...
Hi everyone. I have not posted much here since I bought my first LR, a 1999 SE7. It has been a great vehicle with little to no problems aside from a minor coolant leak that keeps popping up from time to time (the trottle body heater gasket). My partner started driving my Disco & decided she wanted one too. I was all on board for that since it figured it would be a lot easier to maintain two veclies if they were the same!
Fast forward to last week. We picked up a 1999 SE w/ 130k miles. I was a bit concerned about the higher mileage, but the seller had maintenance records and it seemed to be well taken car of engine wise. The driveshaft has been replaced with a greaseable one & has been regularly lubed, the head gaskets have been replaced. It has had new plugs, wires, rotors, brakes, master cyl, recently & oil changes regularly... that sort of thing.
There are a few minor things that need to be fixed. Neither if the front seats move forward/back all the other directions work fine. Needs new motors you think? I checked the fuses under the seats and replaced a blown 3A, but it made no difference. My next step is to clean the contacts on the switches & if that doesn't help look for some new motors. Sound like a good plan?
The brakes real soft. My first Disco has great brakes and it stops on a dime with barely any pressure. I'm guessing since the master cylinter is newer (August), maybe the lines just need bled?
The interior in general needs cleaned & the headliner is sagging... No big deal, I can take care of that one of these days.
Here is where I need some help...
On the highway, if I hit a bump or switch lanes and there is the slightest bit of a rut in the roadway, it jerks and pulls real bad. Almost to the point where my partner wont drive it. On better roads it doesn't pull to one side or the other at all, but if you hit a patch of rough road, its very hard to keep it in the proper lane. If the road is rough when coming to a stop, it will pull very hard the wheel will turn 1/4 of a turn easily and it's hard to correct. The main differences between this 2nd Disco & mine are that the 2nd one has had a coil conversion done and the PO has put 17" wheels on it. I'm almost at a loss as to how to go about this. I'm sure not all D2s drive the same, but this is like a completely different vehicle.
My partner won't drive this until I get it fixed up. She's driving mine for now & I'd like to get my truck back!
If anyone is in the South Jersey/ Philly are and has some time to take a look or maybe take it on a quick test drive with me, that would be a huge help. There's cold beer inthe fridge!
Thanks for any and all advice!!!

here is the throttle gasket. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/ERR6623.cfm
the seats has to be a wiring or fuse issue. i'm not as good as the electrical as some people on the forum, but the RAVE manual will help as well as it has the wiring diagrams. I doubt both pumps when at the same time.
The headliner is simple. I am working on a detailed write up with pictures will post it by the end of the week. also the RAVE is handy for that.
what kind of wheels were put on the truck? not many wheels fit the disco 2 and there could be some weird adapter or spacers used.

Check the front tie rod ends for play, they most likely need to be changed. Should do a brake fluid flush. And while you're at it, check the brake pads and grease the calipers.
Thanks for the link for the Gasket. I could not find one locally last time and I was in a hurry to get it fixed before a long trip. I made one out of some all purpose paper gasket material. Probably why it's leaking again. I'll get one ordered!
I got a RAVE CD made when I bought my first Disco. It's a bit hard to navigate. I'll look at it some more tonight & see what I can find onthe seat wiring. Maybe something is just frayed or pinched?
I'll check on the tire sizes tonight when I get home and repot back. I may have been mistaken when I said 17". I think the weels are 18". They are OEM hurricane wheels from a Rangie. The PO may have had to use spacers to make them fit? If so, they are coming off since I have the originals to put on it.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
The steering issue is taken care of. I put on the 16" wheels and tires & that helped a lot. The 18" Hurricanes are listed for sale here if anyone has any interest in them. All of the suspension linkages and components checked out okay. I got an alignment and it drives great.
My next issue to tackle are the power seats:
This being my 2nd Disco I have the advantage of being able to swap parts and check things out before I start ordering new ones.
For the seats, I have swapped out the relays under the seats, checked the fuses, and swapped out the switches from my other D2 (powers seats work fine in this one). So far nothing helps.
I guess I need to take a closer look at the Rave Manual diagrams & start checking things with a DMM? That almost seems easier than taking the motors out and swapping them. I may need to take the seats out either way just to get a set of test leads to the motors well enough to check them anyway? Anyone have any tips to getting to the motors?
I flushed & replaced the brake fluid (DOT4 synth) & bled the brakes the old fashioned way & it didn't help my squishy pedal. Is it possible there is air trapped inside the newly replaced master cyl? or the ABS unit? What else can I try?
Thanks!

Power Seats are also run through your IDM. I have a 99DII and replacing the IDM fixed a host of electrical issues.
Best thing is to pull it, open the case and look for corroded circuit boards. They're screaming obvious if you do have them. You can clean them and try again, it worked for me, but the replacement is only $100.00 shipped from roverguy.com, and it takes about 30 mins to do.
Just my $0.02

the seat diagrams are in the RAVE manual as well. not that much fun to get to the motors. i think it is an electircal issue rather than a failed pump in the seat.
as for the brakes do you have an ABS light on? in what order did you bleed the brakes? when were the pads and or rotors last replaced?
