If not, what would it take to retrofit one into an 03? I'm looking at Disco II's. If an 03 doesn't have them, and can't be easily retrofitted, maybe I should be looking at an 04 then?

Thanks,

Mark G

It would not have it unless someone has retrofitted it previously. You'd have to replace the transfer case, or atleast the front snout, with one from a 99-01 or from an 04 truck that did have the CDL. Some people have also swapped them from Disco 1s, but if I remember correctly there's something funny about a sensor or something.

That's what I thought. Is all the internal wiring there for a CDL for easy dash light hook-up and so on?

I'm actually not sure off the top of my head. I do recall that there if something funny about the wiring and most guys just snip a wire at their ECU so that warning lights don't go off when the CDL is engaged. I also know there is a way to do it right, but I don't recall what that way is.

The right way is to swap in a D2 locking t case(99-6/01 or 04').

Then got a D1 or 04' D2 shifter assembly.

Finally, to make sure you dont have any weird dash lights you swap in a slabs ECU from an 04' D2.

There is a pressure sensor which tells the CDL light on the dash if it is engaged. It is indicated by the arrow in the picture.

X2 on this! I put a 2004 shifter in my 2000 quite some time ago. It is extremely annoying to be on the trail and have to disengage your CDL before shutting down the vehicle so you don't have the 3 Amigos when you start it again.

"Let's break for lunch here.."
"OK. give me space, because I may need to drive back and forth about 10 feet several times to make sure my CDL is disengaged.."

Or having to do the stupid back and forth dance and then restarting the vehicle after a break so it restarts Amigo free.

I believe I had read somewhere that the 2004 SLABS ECU had better programming for ABS and traction control also, as compared to the earlier ECUs.

I upgraded to a 2004 SLABS ECU about a year ago. So nice being able to shut it down with the CDL engaged and restart with a non-lit dashboard!
