Default Knock Sensor - Replacement Part Question

My 04 Discovery is throwing a knock sensor code that won't go seem to go away by clearing it. If I go ahead and replace the sensor, do I have to stick with OEM or are there aftermarket (cheaper) ones available?

Lets start with the basic's first, what grade of gas do you use?
When was the last time the truck had a tune up?

I bought the truck about a month ago and am finishing up my second tank of 93 (Exxon). I have little confidence that the previous owner was using a higher octane and suspected that that could be tripping the sensor. However, I can't seem to clear out the code and am due for an inspection in February (of course). I'm also not certain as to when the truck last had a tuneup.

and which code? Rock Auto has sensors for $30 - $34. Knock sensors are basically cystals tuned to the noise frequency of a ping, and they produce a voltage at that point, which the ECU detects and deals with. Not a complex gizmo like an MAF sensor.

Thanks. Code is P0327 (Knock Sensor 1 - Circuit Low Input (Bank1)). I believe Bank 1 is the right side, if I'm looking at the front of the truck, correct?

Left and right is ALWAYS from sitting in the driving position, always and it makes no difference what car or where in the world it is.
So right side is the left of the engine looking at it from the front.

Okay. So Bank 1 would be the LEFT side. Is that correct?

All parts of every car are located inthe same manor. All right side parts are on the right hand side..such as fender/doors/1/4 panel...and left are as such. People who don't understand this are just insane to talk to. They look at a car from the front and assume that the right fender is on the left, because it's to their left. Try and explain drivers side and passengers side......their first question is "What if it's a right hand drive car" Hence it's still on the right side !!!!!!
