With the transfer case and differential fluid... recommended fluid?

 

Forgot to mention, brake bleed, new pads and rotors, new thermostat, radiator, new heater core, and head gaskets have been done.

 

any 85/140, you will need 7 quarts. Was your tranny fluid clear red or brownish when you last checked it?

 

Tranny fluid didn't look bad. I did a drain and refill about a month ago.

 

Will do the transfer and diff fluids while i have it up on ramps tonight

 

You might want to remove the inspection cover and see if the flex plate is loose?

 

Wil the truck hold on a hill in Park? I"m not sure about the Disco transmission, but if the parking pawl engages a part that would normally be spinning while at rest the pawl may been sheared off it and might be just touching the rotating part? I know this is a long shot becasue I think the pawl usually engages with the output shaft, which should be stationary at rest. Just a thought.

 

did you find the cause of you knock in Park, changing fluids is great and need but I don't think it has anything to do with your knock in park

 

I also had the same problem with my 2003 Disco. One of my friends said that it was an "aesthetic" defect in the truck, while I read somewhere in the forums that it could be evidence your oil pump is failing. I have never had any mechanical problems otherwise and have driven 30,000 miles with it before handing it over to its next owner.

 

if it were your oil pump it would not make noise in park only.
