Default Knockin in engine fixed!!!!

Well, after replacing the oil pump and lifters, turned out the knocking noise and oil light issues were the main bearings. We replaced all but one due to the last one has a broken head on the bolt, we were unable to get it off. Now the noise is almost nonexistent and the oil light has gone off!! Thanks for everyone's input, wouldn't have been able to figure it out without the inputs!!

Congrats! and thanks for posting the updates.

Out of curiosity, What did you do about the bolt you couldn't get out?

Sounded like metal hitting metal in the pattern a flat tire would have. Still couldn't get the bolt out so that is the only bearing not replaced which I'm sure is causing the little left over knock but the oil light has gone off and when I stop people don't look at me like I'm driving a junker!!!!

WOW!
First time I heard that. Lucky you caught that in time. O/w would have been more expensive, like a new crankshaft etc.
Thanks for the update.

Did you replace the mains with the motor in the car? I'd want to get that bolt fixed and that one last bearing replaced ASAP if I were you?

I have replaced the mains with the motor in the car on a D I. Was much easier and straightforward than I thought.

Ditto on that "replacing the last main bearing with the damaged bolt head". Hanging there.

I'd love to get that last bearing changed ASAP, I can't find an auto shop that will do it, they keep saying they don't want to open that can of worms, I'm not sure what that means though. I also can't find anyone with a tool that will get that bolt off. Thanks for the advice.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/CIMG0357.jpgHi CB,
If the bolt head is rounded off, there is a bolt extractor that you can use provided you have adequate clearance around the bolt head. You need to hammer one of these on
the stripped bolt head and use a socket or a ratchet to unscrew it. The extractor is made of hardened steel.
