Why do you ask, who is going to be doing it and are you rebuilding or swapping one out?
Plan on 5 to 6 hours plus depending on what you are doing

ringerso - Have you done the swap yet? If yes, how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking. I am looking to do something similar on my '02 and and weighing my price options. Thanks!

I haven't done the swap yet. I plan on doing it at the end of January. I purchased a used transfer case from Marty Powell ($100 for the case, and $75 for shipping), along with a used D1 shifter for it ($125). I'll post some results after it's done.

What was this used t/case out of, I hope another 03 or 04 or you will have problems since the earlier t/cases are different.

Good stuff, sounds like a pretty good deal. I am wanting to do this swap before the summertime as well, just need to convince the wife to authorize funds. If you did a step by step pictoral/how-to, I'd appreciate ithaha. Good luck with your swap....January's right around the corner.

Default interesting iphone / android app for estimating parts and labor

Hi,

I found this iphone/android application called "RepairPal". It's free and you can download it from the Android Market.

Put in your make and model etc and it lists a whole bunch of repair and service possibilities....
Then put in your zip code and it'll do an estimate of the cost range of parts and labor...

For instance: For Catalytic Converter Replacement in Lynnwood Washington it gave the estimate between $1226 and $4318. (Parts estimate was $1030-$4068 and labor estimate was $196 - $250).

I'm not sure how accurate this program is but I'd be interested to know what DiscoMike and other knowledgable members think of it.

It can be found at http://repairpal.com/mobile (or if you have an android phone go to the Market and do a search for "RepairPal".

Considering that Repairpal says DII hub bearings are $25-$35 I wouldn't rely on it for much.

The Land Rover published book time for R&R of a transfer gearbox on a D1 is 5.4 hours. Since the D1 and DII are near the same for the gearbox I'd say it's close. Keep in mind that's for a Land Rover shop and mechanics who have likely done it before.

FWIW Mitchell book time for transfer case R&R on a 2003 Discovery HSE is 7.7 hours.
