Default Land Rover Discovery 2.5 litre (Manual) for towing a speedboat

HI People,

I need help!

I own a

Bombardier Celebrity 220 CC Cuddy Cabin
Mercruiser Engine 5.7LX/V8 Thunderbolt 'V' Ignition Alpha
Dimensions: LOA 6.70m/LWL 5.80m/Beam 2.50m/
Draft Min 0.50m/ Draft Max 0.90m/
Displacement 1,780kg/Headroom 1.60m

I am asking if a Land Rover Discovery 2.5 litre (Manual) would be suitable to tow it.
I also have the trailer Thalmar approx 400 trailer SO: 2,200 - 2,400 (max 2.5 tonne)

Would the Landy be suitable to tow the Boat and trailer from France to Spain.

We have a 4L auto and a 2.5 manual: if both OK (2.5l manage 2.5 tonnes OK), we prefer to take 2.5l manual to Spain (friends used 4litre, an Auto we think, before on it)

Many thanks

Lesley

Is the 2.5L the diesel? Shouldn't matter, Disco 2s are rated to pull 7700 lbs. Which is 3500 kilos. You should be fine.

(with a v8 in Low Range.... In the Real World, they cap out at at 5300 +-, it's a class 3 hitch and all....)

(would you like a pic from the owners manual? Wife's time... so I have had to find things to read to fall asleep... that manuel will do the trick, if you're curious)

I've have used a D2 2003 TD5 auto for towing for years and towed large trailers up to a PTAC of 3500kgs at 80mph with no problems at all. The LR D2 TD5 is one of the best tow 'tugs' on the market and will tow a boat withing that range comfortably from France to Spain. After all northern France to southern Spain is less than 1000 miles and we towed 3500kgs regularly 500-600 miles in 12 hours on the autoroutes (motorways) without issues. Autoroute tolls are a different matter though, be prepared for a shock. Hope these links help.

Note: Sitges is in the proximity of Barcelona so easy access from France by autoroutes. No worries towing.

OffroadFrance

Thank you enormously
and agree on tolls

It would not be so bad, if only French alternative was a road that went to 20odd KPH occasionally!

thanks
