I've worked extensively on BMW/MERCEDES/AUDI/ especially electrical but this truck seems while rudementary in comparison where i shine in the electrical computer department this is like all manual work which isnt my gig. When I got this the other day first thing i noticed was the three amigos, I already ordered that scanner to see if it will clear before having option B done or just buying the replacement part for 70usd on ebay. But whats really making me crazy is I brought it through the car wash and upon getting back into the car it was like a waterfall from the back door. I just went outside this morning with my fiance and gave her a bottle of water, I had her pour it on top of the rubber black weather stripping and it seems to come right into the truck. It appears so tight and I dont see any cracking but its getting in somewhere. Things like this i HATE to bring to a mechanic where Im sure it the parts cost next to nothing but im gonna pay a fortune.

Thanks
Frankie

BTW : Do you guys in the tri state area get together to do runs and off-roading?

With your 3 amigos, just buying the replacement part may not solve the issue of fluid getting past the O rings. You will also need this kit:
Discovery shuttle valve seals & new style reaining clips
Or buy the whole shebang from them:
ABS shuttle valve code solution; brake fluid leaks
These guys are the only folks in the US (Tuscon, AZ) who sell the O rings!
I have a wife and two kids so I have no time to off road. I get dirty looks when I head out to the garage to work on "Winston"

For legal offroading around here, the only options are private land, upstate NY, or Wharton State Forest in southern NJ. Not sure about any place in CT. I go out to Wharton with friends -- nothing really challenging there aside from the occasional wallow.

I wouldn't take leaks to a Rover shop. Any body place should be able to look at that for you. There shouldn't be anything Rover-specific about it.

If you need a guy in Central NJ, a friend of mine left a LR Dealership and is independent. Does very good work, very affordably.

have also heard good things about Carlos, have not used him though. As for the amigos, need to have code to determine issue. Could be shuttle valve or bypass issue, could be sensor. Replaced abs sensor this past weekend, all of about an hours work and am now 3 amigos free. Also check for LR rallies in the mid-atlantic, some coming up Easter weekend.

Hey RedRover,
Could you please PM me his number. I also noticed one of the members here who is very active I believe is from Wall NJ which isn't too far so i may check him out also.

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated. I actually am starting to see anything that can go wrong with a truck goes wrong with this truck although there is a DIY for everything. I was ready to buy new plastics for the whole truck but I found a DIY on here to restore them that looks awesome so i'll pick up those supplies today. I also found another DIY on fixing the seal on the rear door so I'll be trying that today also. The only thing I'm confused about and I'll bring to the mechanic is the rear lights and rear sunroof. Apparently the guy i purchased the truck from told me something about if the rear lamps are out the truck wouldnt go into drive, never heard this and maybe something else was wrong but apparently he paid to have it fixed but now I only have 1 rear light, left side and only the brake light and left tail. Weird thing is when i hit the brakes at the exact second the left light goes out and the right one goes on??? Very strange and i need to get them all working to pass inspection in NJ, at times like these I hate that i changed my reg and insurance from FL to NJ. I miss having no inspections, ARGHHH!! Well looking forward to meeting up with some members here, I have just about every electronic tool there is. For the rover I'll be using JLR SDD to diagnose and fix the issues I have, can't see there being a better tool than the dealer one.

Thanks
Frankie

Yes of course... I actually removed both rear lights today with the brake depressed with a bottle of water and confirmed both were out. Then I saw that when i removed all the lights as i touched them they came on and then off, it seems the brown wire when jiggled the light flickered. For now i just tied up the brown wire tight and both brake lights are working, although i put them back together before testing the standard rear lights as the right one is still out. I'll take care of this later as it seems I have a loose connection somewhere so possibly i'll strip and solder on a new wire into the cap. The rear fogs I have to check as those are out also, as well as the front factory trail package lights.

Thanks
Frankie

The rear fog/turn signal assembly is atrocious (at least on my '99). The bulb holders are so fiddly that it's almost impossible to get them sitting in the exact right place to have them work reliably.

@DrDash where did you net out on this? Obviously digging up an old thread here but just bought a Disco II from a family friend and am looking for a reliable / knowledgeable mechanic to fix it up a bit. Was looking at RoverSpecialist in Clifton NJ but curious if you found luck elsewhere. Thanks!
