Land Rover Screwed Me/Oil Pump
"Cry baby"? That's absurd. Even if it were a Kia you should have the expectation that something such as this oil pump failure would be replaced when it failed or the company would have issued a recall.
It doesn't matter how much money you spend. Would you tell a guy who owns a Bentley or Ferrari-"quit being a cry baby, you should have driven it more in the first few years while it was under warranty"? Sounds kinda stupid, right? Why would it be any different for anyone else? If I drive a POS or a Land Rover or a Ferrari, my expectation is that the car is built without defect and if a defect is known or detected in my model year it will be taken care of by the manufacturer.
People who get their brakes fixed under warranty because they "wore out too quickly" are cry babies, not someone who has an unexpected oil pump failure at 36k miles, regardless of how old the car is.
Cheers,
Chris

One thing I would love to know for sure is if it's likely for the pump failure to occur in trucks with higher mileage. The local dealer told me they'd never seen the pump failure in high-mileage Discos. In other words, does this problem present itself by a certain mileage point, and after that, there's a safe zone?
Are there any of you who, like myself, have a 2003 with over 100,000 milesin the VIN range that has not had any problems?
Any of you who have a greater-than-100,000 miles 2003 that the pump failure occurred near or after 100,000 miles?

Land Rover Screwed Me Too. Call me a cry-baby because I also got shot down by LRNA when my oil pump went 4K out of warranty 54K miles. I have info on a class action but I fear this is a ways off. 6 months with a dead vehicle is all I could take. Now I am in the process of installing a used engine form the non-contaminated VIN range. I have 9 years history working for OEM manufactures (motorcycle and marine) and would have expected this one to be a clear good-will claim covered by LR. Based this on the fact that I can not merely replace a pump to correct a faulty engine/block. In the past 6 months I have seen the chatter increase around these pump failures, I am confident that a class action LR will catch up with LR. In the meantime I like the idea of small claims court and will take this path. Possibly a class will surface latter and offer some reimbursements. In the end I will have gone through hell but a little pain against the LR name will make me feel I wee bit better. After owning Disco I & II, I now discourage the LR name to anyone I pass furthermore, I would never buy a Ford after the hell they put me through with a LR. “Once bitten twice shyâ€. In the end the decision to hope the vehicles go out of warranty and the consumer is stuck with the bill will hurt LR and I hope Ford is scarred as well.
We could always follow the advice of DM and read our warranty or purchase a new engine form the store he pimps. DM you should be getting the hint that these are not consumer expectations on how to solve or make right on a known defect.

What ever happened in this case, We have so many posts with good dialogue and then they just stop without any resolution. This is still a problem today, Look at my report on www.bonnettoboot.com, click on technical issues.
Nothing will ever come of it, the vehicles are out of warranty, there will never be a recall or class action suit, not enough failures, and Rover has been bought and sold 2 times since that issue came up.
I'm sorry about your truck but why would you ask LR to fix it when its out of warranty? Not trying to be a ***** but if the power seat switch stopped working out of warranty would you ask them to fix it? If your headlamp blew out would you ask them to fix it? I know this is a bigger beast but it's still out of warranty?
