I just looked at my eBay purchase history in my email because i swapped out LEDs back in 2013. I bought two 36mm and two 39mm. I don't remember where I put each, but I do remember needing two sizes...

So I tried the 39mm in the center dome also... too wide and too long.. If you could think deep for a sec about where you put 36mm vs. 39mm that be great! Also should i go with the bulb that has 6 LEDs on a board or 3 in a tubular design?
If you have the link/pic that would also be helpful.

We may need to relocate/start new thread "LED DOME/MAP Light Upgrade" if this isn't the correct location.

Also, how satisfied months / years after the LED upgrade? Any Problems?

The LED.. this got me excited as soon as I touched both terminal with the LED I had Illumination bright as the sun in my eyes. I was like DAMN, but then..no fit. I even put the LED (not pictured) in the VICE and attempted to decrease overall length by ≥1mm.. still too long. May be a bit too wide, but didn't get that far. Thanks again.

This is what I'm using in my '99 D2... 10 x Energy Saving 39mm Dome Light 12 3528-SMD LED Car Festoon Bulb Lamp White... They work great and I've been very happy with them. Bought them on Ebay from China for $6.99 in May 2013. I haven't had any issues with them. I believe I do remember them being a little difficult to put in due to the size, but they fit and work great.

While we are on the subject, has anyone replaced their reverse lights with a much brighter LED option?

Ya I'd second this question. I'd like to get some better light in reverse.

Also, the LEDs in the dome lights are great. I've had 0 issues with them for the last three years they have been in there. And I got ones that look exactly like that picture you posted. Also as mentioned, they are nice because you can kind of swivel them to direct the light where you really want it. I just mine in completely parallel with the roof so they just shine straight down.

Sorry, I just really can't remember where I put each different size. I think the only one that took the 39mm was in the very back. But I could be wrong. Should only take 3 minutes tops though to pop off the plastic cover and see where your 39mm ones fit...

So I tried all three bulb locations:
Front: 39mm = too long
Middle: 39mm = too long (closest to fitting if I rotate LED board perpendicular to the roof, but a significant loss of light as to position)
Rear: 39mm = too long

I could prob bend the terminals back to fit the 39mm, but don't want to cause any metal fatigue. The one I have in the pic above, I believe has too many LEDs b/c the board is a hair longer than the terminals.. I ordered more of the 31mm, 36mm, & 39mm LED Festoons with (3) 3 linear LEDs from China ($room for trial & error)!! I've got about $12 in this now Last time! I hope this works cause this is too simple to be complicated!!

I’m going to be bumping up some old threads but what can I do, I just got my truck. I just replaced my 2003 D2 with 7506SYLLED LED bulbs and they are nice and bright and a good fit.
but now my question is what activates the red bumper lights that are in the same assembly. Should those red lights also be on in reverse. If so, I need to go back for some more bulbs.

the red lights are your rear fog lights.

they only come on when push the rear fog light button located on the left side of the steering wheel, second button from the top.
