Default Limp Mode

My 2002 Discovery II is having limp-mode issues. I have had it to several shops with no luck. It seems to come and go. When I shut it down and restart it has reset. Some times it will travel for 45 minutes and again it goes into limp-mode. It runs well except for this issue. Any ideas out there.

You mean the transmission goes into limp mode? With M/S lights lit?

If this is the case, your XYZ switch may need adjustment or replacement. Have you checked for codes? Even if the check engine light isn't lit, there may be codes stored.

I know from experience a bad sealing gas/petrol cap make the Disco go into Limp mode.

Yes I had it replaced and the alternator and the battery. I wonder if the voltage regulator could be a issue. Thanks for your response.

X1 ................ in some cases it's also the battery or alternator or possibly a duff earthing ground. It pays to 'exercise' the autobox regularly through the gears before pulling away which keeps the XYZ switch active with the grease inside. Also ensure the A/C drain pipe on the driver's side is extended down otherwise it discharges directly onto the XYZ switch. I believe it's 8mm OD ??? tube.

Check the codes for the problem source.
