I think 4-4.5k is a fair price for a D2 in that condition. It looks well taken care of, and it didn't show signs of the typical abuse I've seen in used LR's.

Ask him where he's taken it for service, what oil weight he's used and just drive it and test all electronics.

 

I got my 2000 Disco 2 with 150,000 miles a few months back for $450. It just needed new plugs and coils. $50 later and the truck runs like new. I've spent about $400 since I got the truck. New throttle heater plate, interior bits and parts off a donor rover. I would either get a 2000 or a 2004 with the CDL if I was looking. Also check for paperwork to see if the truck has been maintained. I lucked out with the truck I found, the previous owner had a stack of receipts which said he had the head gaskets done less than 20,000 miles ago and new timing chain. Brand new tires as well with less than 10,000 miles.

 

You obviously did well on that rust free D2 in excellent condition.
