Started the engine removal process today, Valve covers are off and the valve train looks fine so now dropped valve. So now my guess is I may have had a cracked piston which would explain the miss fire in that cylinder....anyway something in the bottom was the issue.....Ill know what soon enough.

My engine is out. Tons-o-fun it was. Actually it wasn't bad took about 2hrs once I had the heads off which took 2hrs as well. I had never worked on this engine prior so I had to find my way around. Any questions I can help with lemme know. There's a few transmission bolts that were hard but not impossible to get to, I got to them all without manipulating the motor angle etc or using extensions from way behind it. It was a little slow going though and when I go at it again, I'll probably tilt the motor on the mounts etc. There's a couple sensors including a knock sensor that is easy to miss, least I think it was a knock sensor, drivers side of block under the headers in what is commonly a knock sensor location.

Ill replace the head gaskets and oil pump before the install as well. on a side note the lady behind me stopped and said it looked like something you see in a nascar race......smoke and flames coming out the back. I posted the carnage for your viewing pleasure......

Impressive work! I am going through the same thing, only I am a complete noob and don't know my way around engines. It's certainly been a learning experience for me but it is taking a long time. If you were close to florida, you'd find these discos are a dime a dozen. Looking forward to seeing the progress you make!
