Universals work just fine. I recommend replacing both sides. Your originals are worth a oretty penny; find someone trustworthy to buy them.

I wouldn't drop the coin on the Magnaflows. I use the cheapy eBay converters like these.

Thanks Alex. Why are used cats worth anything?

They have precious metals in them. Palladium or something. If original, the recyclers will give you $$. I recycled my ratting originals for $1200. Guess that’s why the meth heads are stealing Cat Converters

I wonder if those will work in Denver, we aren't far off from CA these days and they religiously test all of my rovers basically yearly..

I recycle mine for $1250 for both in June. I've heard pricing has gone down a bit, but a free replacement basically is nothing to scoff at.

You should be able to have universals welded in just fine, although they may need to drop the pipe to weld near the frame sides.

Took these to custom muffler shop. We determined that the passenger side replacement cat was going to be too close to the driveshaft. So I decided to punt and get the full Y replaced. $970 installed, hopefully by Monday.

While waiting on the exhaust, I decided to crawl under my rover and do an inspection. Turns out my loose cat element was actually a loose heat shield. The clanking over bumps was loose rear shocks.

i just saved myself about $1000. It just goes to show you that nothing replaces putting your eyes and hands on the disco.

Good news. I’ve certainly made jobs much bigger than I’ve needed to before.
