Question lost almost all my oil

Driving home from the ball field last night and the oil light came on and smoking like crazy. I pulled over within just a few seconds to a local gas station and shut her down. when I popped the hood there was oil all over the passenger side of the motor and of course on the exhaust. I could not find the source of the leak. I checked to oil level and it did not register. I had to add 5 quarts of oil to get it back to normal level. I had only another 2 miles to go before I was home. I cranked her up with no valve chatter or smoke but the oil light stayed on. I drove the two miles home with the light on and parked it. More oil all over the passenger side and exhaust. Checked the oil this morning and it did not register on the stick and no milky residue either. I also checked the coolant no oil in the coolant. This vehicle overheated recently due to a bad thermostat and crappy temp gauge. What do you think?

Should not have driven it home.
Look and see if the upper oil cooler hose on the right side of the radiator popped off or blew a hose.
Let me know what you find,
Plan on flushing your crank case no matter what caused the oil leak.

BINGO! I had replaced the radiator about six weeks ago and must have not properly connected the line. I will refill, flush, and then change the oil. Thanks Mike.

The oil light comes on at about 7 PSI. Towing would have been better. Normally 50 PSI there. Would not drive any more if oil light does not go out.

So, keep an eye on that fitting for the next couple of weeks. I blew one once and in the process of coming off, it damaged an inner seal which now leaks on my truck after any high speed driving. Seems when it came off it cut the inner seal slightly, I am now having to buy a new hose.

Clean up the fitting.
Make sure the locking collar is not damaged or obstructed.

I did this job in Feb 2013 and when I hear what happened to you...

What I did was test each joint by TRYING TO PULL them apart after I had assembled them as a test..
