Default lost plastic pieces off front and rear bumper?

so judging by the number of people who are trying to buy the plastic assembly that goes on the front bumper (holds fog lamps and whatnot) i am not the only guy who took his rover off road and completely trashed the plastic pieces on the front and rear bumper.

lets hear the story of how you lost a piece of your rover and maybe show the damage.

i will start:

story : lost both front and rear bumper while running trails here in WA in axle deep snow - it includes crossing the nisqually river (actually a tributary of the big river) while it was partially frozen over. lost the grill while playing on the humvee confidence course here on ft lewis (hope no MP's read this...).

no pics yet. more to follow

This video shows me losing my first piece of plastic off the rear bumper:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ew9AUHKsBU

After this picture was taken I removed the front plastic bumper as it was hanging on by only a thread:

My philosophy for modifications is to replace it as it comes off. I'm always surprised to see so much plastic on 4x4 (Chevy Avalanche). Do these engineers really think plastic is going to stop a rock or tree (or dirt)?

Cheers,

Pete

This is before trimming and resonator removal.

Even after trimming, the other side got pushed a good 1.5" higher than it should be. Note the angle of the ridged plastic overlay piece.

My first time off roading I popped out the driver's side fog light bezel, and broke one of the mounts on the fog light. The front bumper was trimmed before I hit the trails again, so no pics of any frontal damage. But here's the trimmed bumper.

Can you explain:

" This is before trimming and resonator removal. "

Also have any links to howtos on trimming the front bumper, or did you just go at it with a grinder?

Sure thing. I just went at the bumpers with a die grinder. For the front, just follow the bevel in the bumper around the fog light area after removing the lights. There's a tab on the side of the bumper that may or may not be exposed when you trim. Oh yeah, I also removed part of the front fender well. It just unscrews in a few places. Here's a side view. You can see the metal tab you want to avoid cutting just up and to the right of the mounting blots, looks triangular in shape.

For the rear quarter panel, you'll have to remove the mud flaps. One of mine had already been torn off, which usually happens while reversing. Remove the plastic trim piece, lay down some tape so you make a straight cut and take your time with it. It's kind of hard to get the right line to follow on the rear bumper so you'll need to trust your eye to find it. You'll also need a bracket to keep the quarter panel from pulling away from the truck while driving.
