loud clunk after cdl dis-engage!!!
hey guys,
i have couple questions... about my cdl
-i have rebuild both driveshafts in the past 60 miles
-i have changed all fluids in the diffs and t-case and trans.
-i have a new rotoflex also
when i disengage my cdl and i reverse down my driveway (incline) i hear/feel a loud clunk in the drivetrain...it happens when my front wheels hit the street while turning ...so one wheel on the drive way and others on the street...
is that normal for the diff on pavment?
would i feel the same thing in the snow?
i just installed the cdl so i dont know what feels right yet.....i wanna catch anything bad before it breaks.....
with the cdl dis-engaged...regular driving...i dont feel the clunk

Is the CDL light on the dash going out after you release the CDL?
Just in case you did nto already know it is a very very VERY bad idea to drive on dry roads with the CDL locked.
You will tear up your t-case quick.
That being said, how long is your driveway?
The CDL may not be fully disengaged when you hit the end of your drive and that clunk may be it being forcefully disengaged when you turn the wheel.
On your street being able to go in a straight line (or a parking lot) engage the CDL, driver in a straight line, disengage the CDL and then drive in a straight line again and see if you get the same clunk.
Mine does not make any clunks going in or out.

when i drive in a strait line....it doesnt clunk..
i know i shouldnt drive with it on pavement....but i just finished the install and i need to know if it worked..
i will not engage the cdl anymore unless its winter and i'm stuck....
do you think i did any damage....things seems fine when i drive in high range.

No I do not think you hurt anything.
You dont need to be stuck to use it, the idea is NOT to get stuck.
Use it in a blizzard, deep snow, mud, wet grass...
You can use it at any speed.
I drove from ******* to Grand Rapids during a blizzard with mine engaged at speeds up to 65mph.

Any surface with poor traction, (neighbor's yard, etc.) gravel - is a better place to "try it out"
As spike said, turning on hard surface = bad
The better the tire grip, the harder it is on the xfer case gears.
Congrats, have fun
luck,greg
