Dropping Sleeve Question.
My question is about dropping a sleeve. My radiator sprung a leak 8 months ago, and i first noticed it when the engine overheated. Fixed that problem, engine seems to be fine. Water pump hose went about a month ago, engine temp rose again. Fixed hose, no more leakage and motor has been fine ever since. The question: Is the threat of dropping a sleeve and loosing the motor only while the engine is actually overheating, or, am I still in danger of loosing the motor?
The whole trick with any sleeved alloy engine id to not get them hot. If you are wondering if you stand a chance of loosing a sleeve after all this stuff has happened, no. If it is going to drop it will drop when hot and that is the end of the engine.
I would make a point of making sure you have all you leaks taken care of and are using losts of DexCool coolant.

done, and done... I always use 75% dexcool 25% h2o mixture... i've heard anything else is bad for head gaskets. I know theconcept of the alloy and sleeve expanding differently hereby causing major problems, i just didn't know if it caused underlying prob's or not.
Everything has been replaced now, minus head gaskets, so i'm in the clear, for now.

If you are in a warm climate, cut back on the the % of coolant or the adverse will happen and you'll run hotter.
You can also add some of the new coolant additives for even better results.
