Love/Hate Relationship.
Since the late 90's, I have always wanted a Land Rover Discovery. I finally bit the bullet last year and sold my Jeep Wrangler. I bought an 04 D2 HSE after doing a bit of research. I knew what I was getting into and still wanted one of these things. It has been a fairly reliable with the usual quirks: headliner, bit of an oil leak (dreading tackling this one!), damn cracked/brittle front bumper plastic, slight paint fade on roof.
In the last 3 weeks:
Alternator died. Replaced this and the battery.
Noticed air box lid cracked. Replaced.
MAF - Replaced. (Was nasty looking due to airbox lid not seating right and letting in all sorts of trash)
Magnaflow Y pipe on its way and hopefully that clears my last code! (o2 sensors coming also)
Changed plugs and wires. Used 8mm wires everyone suggests. Put in Bosch Double Platinum plugs and immediately started having misfires. Went today and picked up some NGK Iridium plugs and it runs like a top!
Last night I went ahead and did the Seafoam induction/gas tank treatment. Boy did she smoke!
I am about to rebuild the front drive shaft. Hopefully I am close to being done with this thing for a while $$ wise.
I love my Land Rover and hope she serves me well, but if one more thing goes wrong in the next week, I am going to set it on fire!

Welcome to our world. If it's just a very small oil leak. Don't worry about it too much. Might make it worse by fixing it.
Oh and probably the sunroof(s) will begin to leak at some point.

Did all my work to the rover a year ago.
Head gaskets.
Last few months, radiator, 180 degree stat and fan clutch.
Check the transfer case for fluid.
That's it.
Now just enjoy your ride.
If you have a 2nd car - use that for long trips.
Use the rover on the weekends.

Oh yeah! Sunroofs already leaks. Getting some wind noise in a rear passenger door. I changed the tranny fluid and filter. It was not too bad. I have the fluid for the diffs but haven't tackled those yet.
Will check the transfer case as well.

Do you know for sure if it's the sunroof? Could be the windshield or roof bars. Good news is the rear door wind noise is easy. The lining on the window falls down. Roll down back window, then look at the rear track (toward the rear of the door). You will that the window stripping/track has fallen. Take a big flathead screwdriver and push it back up. Done.
