Default Low Oil Pressure (Please Help!!!)

Hello Crew,

Needing some advice from all you experts.

On my 04 Disco I have some oil pressure issues and here is the back story.

I have an external oil pressure gauge that is tapped into a different port then the factory sensor to verify that the pressure reading is correct.

About a month ago upon start I had no oil pressure. I shut down and had the car towed home. Later that night I went out and the car started with oil pressure and at hot Idle I have been at 11PSI. I spoke with Mark from D&D and he thought that it may be my oil filter bypassing causing this problem or the relief circuit in the front cover. I replaced the Oil filter and have been running for at least a month without issue.

This week I've seen that 11PSI start to dip to 8 PSI at Hot Idle. Above Idle the oil pressure is in normal operating range. Coolant Temp is between 200-210.

So my question is do I have an oil pump issue or are my bearing clearances wearing to the point that it won't hold pressure?

I don't mind replacing the pump but if I can get some good intel that it is more then this I'd rather just pull the engine and rebuild.

Default hope this helps

I too have a 04 DII. It grenaded without warning..I tore down to block and found that one of my oil gears in the pump was cracked. It was still intact so i assume it was still working. Usually when the do break and they will.. thats when you can loose your engine. My cam bearings wear so shot my cam was hard to even turn. Actually all my bearings where down or close to the copper... I had a catastrophic failure of a hose so i had no water and was running down the freeway at 60mph when the red light came on. I am use to always looking at the temp gauge as i have the LR owners disorder of not being able to take my eyes off it so it all went in about a minute i would say. Pulled over and it was smelling burnt from the engine. I am having the blocked checked and gone over now. I may also have to replace my front cover as i cant tell if there is machining marks on the insides of the cover and pump or it is suppose to look like that. Cant seem to get a answer from anyone or a picture of what it's suppose to look like. Mark is great guy and knows these motors inside out. He is doing my parts for my rebuild and i just got ARP studs for my daughters headgasket redo on her 2000 DII. If you have the time and $$.. rebuild it...... as it seems that at 100k they really start to go to Sh$t..........

Let us know, Chris

Ok good.
There were a few '04's with the same oil pump problem as the '03's.
I would replace the oil pump and then go from there.
