Default Lower Coolant Hose

So I have a leak coming from the lower coolant hose...the one that attaches to the water pump. So what is the easiest way to replace it? I have the new hose, but it seems nigh impossible to get down there to get it off the water pump.

Thanks!

I changed mine from under the truck. Remove the plactic cover under the radiator so you can get in there. Good to time to change your thermostat and coolant. Make sure you refill and bleed the air properly.

Thanks, Willie. I have a extra long oil filter, so I guess I'll be changing the oil too.

dish soap makes a great lube for sliding the clips on/off. it doesnt take much. with some patience i think you can get around doingthe oil change.

Mcneal - that is a great idea. I hate those freakin clips. I bought the kind that you screw down, but now I might keep the old ones! Thanks!

Jaime,
Why just a lower hose, they all wear at about the same rate? Have you already updated to the newer style upper hose with a separate bleed screw in the black plastic T33?
Make sure you replace your t/stat if it hasn't been done yet.

Hi Mike - Yes, I replaced the upper hose with the new style a few months back. I took the car to the car wash yesterday and cleaned the engine, especially around the bottom hose. When I got home I checked it and it is leaking around the water pump, but it's definitely the hose. I will replace the t-stat too, and the bottom hose of the t-stat while I'm at it. What are your thoughts on the screw down bands vs. the pain-in-the-butt LR clips for the hoses?

Man, what a pain in the a$$ job. That bottom clamp is from h3ll. Took me forever to get it on there. Finally got it and filled it up with no leaks. Rock on.
