LT230 Transfer Case Replacement - Getting Ahead
The current LT230 is suffering from an increasing loud high pitched whine. I also lost CDL as well as hi-low function. I am going to tear into the center console to take a peek from above in the next few weeks. The Disco is still driveable. But suspect it could be on its last legs.
The t/case replacement may possibly an Ashcroft new unit with HD shafts, HD cross pins and metal sleeve).
I am ordering the necessary parts in advance for the job, especially when it is hard to source in Canada. A friend has a shop lift in his farm who will help me with the job. I scoured the forum, but have not seen a comprehensive list. I am thinking:
- exhaust manifold to pipe (double up with 2 gaskets per side)
- Extinct's grade 8 exhaust studs and nuts
- M10 x 1.5 x 150 mm bolts in lieu of the factory LRT-41-009 transfer case alignment studs (recommended by XRAD in one of his posts)
- Bolt and nuts for the y-pipe
Am I missing anything obvious that may be needed? Any other removal or installation hints will also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm about to pull mine for the first time hopefully this weekend as well...we'll see how it goes. Equal emotions positive and negative about the job but putting a 1.4 case back in that shouldn't leak is going to be very well worth it.
Transmission jack is essential. The t-case is way too heavy to handle without one, and you'll put strain on the transmission output shaft.
You will need to remove the chassis crossbar, and the bolts for that will NOT come out. Be prepared to get in there with a grinder.

Thanks for the heads up on the jack. The RAVE also mentioned LRT-99-010.
Just found useful info here on the support bracket on the jack to help with the install:
