Default M & S blinking

My 2005 D2 M&S blinking on the dash! Seems to be in limp mode. What could be causing this?

I presume "2005" is a typo, since there are no '05 DIIs and in your other posts you say you have an '04.

The flashing M&S lights and limp mode are indicators of a transmission fault. Very often that's caused by an electrical problem. The transmission ECU is VERY fickle and sensitive to low voltage. First, check, clean and tighten the battery terminals, and let us know whether or not that cures the fault. If not, we'll go on to checking and cleaning ground connections.

I encountered this problem a couple of years ago. It was the factory wedge-style terminals. They are prone to coming loose, especially if you hit the gravel often. I used some copper shims on the battery posts. Ideally, I would like to replace the factory battery clamps when I have more time later in the year.

Whenever this has happened to me on any Disco, it's because the battery needed a charge. Get yourself a trickle charger and check it/top it off every few months.
