I checked the alternator 14.4 volts engine running at idle.
i checked the battery 12.5 volts engine off.
i checked battery with headlights on 11.6 volts engine not running.
i cleaned all ground wires.
battery is at least two years old and smaller cold cranking amps than stock(600)
i had a few starting issues but cleaned the switched 12volt wire to the starter silnoid.. that seemed to work..

should i just go buy a new battery (a little bigger 720cca) just to see if it fixes the problem?

 

When you cleaned all the grounds, would that include ones from the battery to the frame, etc.? Could also be any connection between tranny computer and ground or wiring harness. The tranny computer sets a code if voltage it sees is below 9 volts when engine running and turns on those lights, but no MIL light. Checked my old D1, 2 year old interstate battery, 12.49 cold, 11.8 headlights on, 14.0 after cranked with lights still on. It never hurts to have a new battery, but you may have another issue as well.

hey thanks guys. I posted those number to double check that they were ok.
yes i even checked the frame and engine block grounds..
Today i will disconnect and clean the trans ecu plugs, and grounds.
If that don't fix it i'll get a new bigger battery.
If that don't fix it i'll be up poop creak with out a paddle and have to take it to a pro shop.

Can't say the battery is your problem, but Discos run better on a 800 CCA or higher battery, your 600 CCA is a Toyota size battery.
Have you had any recent fault codes, if so what were they?

 

well we had some of the coldest day so far this winter and the truck started just fine, every other day i checked the battery voltage, it was fine. i went to autozone had the battery load tested they said that it was borderline bad. so, i got a new battery, but that didn't fix it. So now i get to double check all the grounds and plugs plus add a little dielectric goo. still no mil codes. thanks again for the help

 

fixed the problem. I filled the pins on the plug to the trans solenoids with dielectric grease... no more lights... plus i got a new bigger battery..

 

Battery checked out fine.
