Default MAF purchase help.

I need a new MAF. I have heard a lot of different opinions here and other places. I would like to buy an OE MAF, but I am still broke as heck.

So, has anyone had luck with any of the cheaper ones? Some pretty big websites sell the remanufacted Cardon (sp?) for as little as 80 bucks or a non-OE Bosch for $130, both with 1yr warranties. I know there are many that say you have to spend 250-ish at AB and I respect that a lot, but I am hoping (praying) that someone has had some luck with one of the aftermarkets that I can afford.

I just need something to hold me over till times get better and I can get the best of everything but I don't want to waste money on some junk aftermarket that won't work (or make things worse---shutter) either. Right now I am getting under 10mpg so I have to do something. And I dream of the day when I don't see the CEL for just a couple of weeks!

Thanks everybody.

I used the cheaper one from AB and have not had any issues yet...(knock on wood) I was in the same boat as you and it has held up well.

See if you can get a used one from Auto Sports Unlimited or from Roverguy.com. That would be what I would do.

So a used one from ASU or Roverguy is better than a new, aftermarket? How can they sell those things and offer a year warranty if they don't work? Sorry for the stupidity here, I just wanna know. Thanks.

Most of the after market MAFs will fail, sometimes as quick as they are plugged in.
Ehen buying one, make sure it is a Bosch MAF with the proper model and in a Rover box, or it may turn around and bite you.

Many places only offer a 90 day warranty on used parts but still if were on a budget (and I am) I would go with used OEM parts as opposed to new aftermarket. I have had good luck with all my used parts and the cost is a fraction of even aftermarket prices.
