Major Service.
I have an easier solution:
Bring your Discovery to the Biggs Brothers in Bellevue. Steve Biggs and his crews is honest and professional giving you back a complete new car to enjoy. I have done my major ($4K) service to our Disco there. I love them ! they deserve business.

The 60k mile service which is the biggest I think is $1k at the dealer. With a little more than $4k I can just throw in a new engine and at the dealer to top it off.
For those of you buying a used vehicle with 60K or more on it, consider doing the full list to bring your truck current.

hello,im looking for disco mike if possibile.i bought a 99 discovery II and the alarm will not deactivate.is there a way to bypass the alarm. im new to this site and at 1 time you posted your phone number, but i misplaced it .my number is 509-637-5885 my name is anne. thanks
Okay, I did everything on Disco Mike's list except for lubing the drive shaft and change the spark plugs and wires (this was done recently for me after I had the engine swapped a little over one year ago). I also replaced my 2000 disco's (with 142,000 miles) front shock struts with Bilsteins hd, rotors (the new ones are Royalty slotted/drilled), and brake pads (Hawk LTS).
As for Disco Mike's list:
My front diff pumpkin seemed to need half a qt more gear oil than the back one. I thought they both had the same volume?
The transmission only took three quarts of fluid and one qt of the transmission treatment. I thought it filled up with 5 qts total. After it initially topped off, I did put the filler hex nut back on and started the engine and then switched my transmission from P to 1 (two seconds per each shift) and then returned back to P (on the way back, two seconds (repeated)). Did I do something wrong?
After finishing up all the work. I spent 30 minutes cleaning up the driveway!
I did all of the work yesterday. My neck is still sore from spending all of that time underneath the disco.
I feel relieved and proud to get all of this work done.
Do any of you know how much labor costs I saved by doing all of this work???
thanks to all for your forum threads. They helped me tremendously!
As for Disco Mike's list:
- Engine flush
- I used the Gunk Motor Flush
- I did it a little differently then prescribed. First, I drained the oil (did not change the oil filter). I then added 4 qts of cheap 5/30 conventional oil (for sale) and added a qt of the Gunk. I then ran the engine on idle for 5 minutes. I immediately drained the oil and changed the oil filter. I was amazed by how dirty the new oil was!!!
- I used the Gunk Motor Flush
- Drained both the differentials.
- Dang the synthetic 75/145 gear oil was both expensive and was hard to find. I ended up driving out of town just to find my last three qts. Next time I will do my due diligence and shop for the gear oil ahead of time using the net. I'm disappointed by how much I spent on the gear oil.
- The front diff was the hardest to fill because the bars in the front of the diff made it difficult to elevate the bottle high enough to flow through easily. My hands and forearms got sore from trying to squeeze the thick gear oil into the front diff pumpkins.
- As for the transfer case. Getting the filler nut off was a major pain. There just was not enough room. I was eventually able to get it off by using a universal socket joint.
- Transmission fluid and filter change.
- Prior to doing this, I was really intimidated by the process. It was actually somewhat easy...Just messy. The Lucas transmission treatment was hard to pump in the filler hole because the fluid was thick.
- The Seafoam treatment was the most fun. My service engine light stayed on for about 1 1/2 days. Driving around with all that smoke in the back was funny.

Hey Disco Mike,
I started your list by having my oil changed. I have only had the car for a month and so this was my first oil change. I had them put in Rotella 15w-40 (from what I've read on this forum) and a Valvoline Oil filter. Yesterday afternoon after I got home, I noticed the engine had a steady knock to it when idling. So I checked the oil and it was right on full. Is the oil too thick for my car?
