2 ways to flush the transmission as far as I know. Power flush using special machine or manually where you drain and refill until fluid comes out clean. 😆
The tranny went without fluid long enough to make it smoke a bit and cause the rpms to skyrocket. Probably 2 hours of driving before I was able to get to a place that had fluid.
As for how I refill the sump. Usually start filling while the truck is cold. Once full I start the truck and warm it up, shifting through each gear several times. Then while idling I add additional fluid to the sump until fluid flows out of fill hole.

I had the same thing happen to mine. If I hadn't read the follow up posts I would have told him to refill it with redline MTF and rock on. The synchros are much happier with it than ATF

Even 10 minutes, you burnt the hell out of your clutches. That's why the fluid smells burnt.
I'd say dump some stop slip in it and drive it till it dies.
And we all understand what he means by intercooler in this context. There are plenty of substitutes for being precise, such as speed just to name one.

Sooo in a worst case scenario can the transmission be replaced without pulling the engine? Any ideas on how much a transmission rebuild should cost? Baring in mind I have a spare transmission with around 170k from my grey D2.

and how exactly does one access upper bell housing bolts with engine still mounted in position on frame?
