For what it's worth, I know my 126k on my '03 was the original block. I'm the original owner.

You sure it's lifter noise? Do you have a genuine gray 180 t-stat in it?
If not you should try one and see if it helps. Engine runs a little cooler and stops the tick in some.

Hi, I bought a 04 se, 3 months ago had 126k and had fresh shortblock , so I think that's how long the original block lasted, and it was never used offroading, that was the reason I bought it, so I don't need to worry about rebuilding a new block, since it cost's a lot to get a new shortblock, drives very nice, so far , so good.

Default My '03 just died

Bought my '03 SE7, in the death VIN range, at 130K and got it to 196K before being told I need a new engine. I've done two HG's already, had the 180 thermostat and had a scangauge to constantly monitor temp. It had recently started drinking coolant with no puddles on the garage floor.
I'm now looking for a LR3...

83k VIN was plagued with known issues as well and after HG replaced, the oil pump gears went. She was ticking slightly as well from slipped sleeve. I was 3rd owner... motor was a total mess when I purchased probably suffered over heating more than once as it was in Miami Fl. Apparently not maintained correctly. Replaced with Cannibal V8

^^I've wondered this as well, any info (I called the dealer that serviced it and they don't keep records after 5 years supposedly)? I have 176k on my '03 (not bad vin range) but I don't know for sure it's original ... father-in-law bought it new and remembers paying about $3,500 for "all the gaskets to be done" at some point, whatever that means, maybe it was actually liner work. Seems pricey for just gaskets, but I do all of my own mechanic work so what do I know. I just pulled the front cover due to coolant leak that got worse quickly ... the water pump looks original and was in near perfect condition (perhaps a bit of play), the front main oil seal was leaking (replacing), timing chain was stretched (replacing), the oil pump gears were intact and seemed fine (but replacing them while open), the oil pan looked good (some sludgy substance in very bottom that wouldn't be near the pick-up tube ... good design i think). Overall, every internal oil area I saw just looked varnished.

"father-in-law bought it new and remembers paying about $3,500 for "all the gaskets to be done" at some point," that could have been a price for head gaskets and a timing cover gaskets, they quoted me $3433.00 included nothing but gaskets.

Default Dead engine at 196 K

It is sitting at The Shop, Norcross, GA if anyone else wants to put an engine in it...
Could kick myself, just changed out the wipers using AB's kit to make them Disco 1 wiper arms for better pressure. Just replaced all the little centers in the wheels with fresh LR emblem caps. Just got the rear ladder too, it was on backorder. Not happy!
