1998 Discovery I
I love my Land Rover Disco, but are they really worth all the work and money iit takes to keep them running?
My Disco I (140,000 miles) misfires alot lately and was followed by a momentary loss of the speedometer( 1-2 seconds) and an immedate yellow check engine light. My research here led me to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor. After replacing the sensor (the old one was almost completly destroyed)and starting the truck the yellow check engine light extinguished and no more misfire for a few days.
Now a few days later, misfire has reappeared, yellow check engine light is on with codes P0300 and P1316. Local mechanic that pulled the codes suggested I replace the crankshaft sensor. I wanted to check with you guys before I replace it.
I disconnected the crankshaft sensor and truck would not start, reconnected and truck still misfires.
Thanks for help!

Without the crank sensor the truck will not run, that is what controls the spark.
Sounds like she needs a good old fashined tune up, new spark plugs and plug wires.
Make sure that you only use the Magnecor plug wires though, if not you will be doing the job again in a month.

And to answer your question, are women worth the work, time, hassle, money? Yes they are, just like a Rover.
And make sure that you are only using premium gas.
Oh, and your mechanic is a idiot, when the crank sensor fails the truck just wont run, no codes for bad crank sensors. Either they work or they dont.

Thanks for the input on the crankshaft sensor. I won't waste my money on it. I see your point Spike about women, not sure it holds true with my Truck!
Besides the tune-up is there any other diagnostic check I can do to determine the misfire? The misfire has deterioated today to the point of losing almost 20-30% power (estimate).
