"And in the words of John Belushi - if all else fails, start drinking heavily."

But, keep in mind what it did to him!

^-welded these in^ Old one's weren't all that bad, but probably not helping either.

Had coil pack tested by a friendly shop. #7 terminal is non-functioning. Great.

Got new coil pack from O'reilly auto, and will tear down IM/etc to get it swapped out.

If this doesn't fix it, I'm going out in the desert with some beer, high explosives, and a video camera, and this SOB is getting a Viking Funeral with a side of dynamite. I'll post it on youtube and giggle enough to warrant the purchase price. I mean, what's

I do not mean to encourage you.. but I do believe I would pay to see that. And I would bring beer. As much as the disco could hold.

have MAF on the way, and I have probably smoked the Cat out of this thing. Oops.

Running very rich, just trying now to figure out WHY??!!

If MAF doesn't cure, I'll pull O2's.

Also - Ultragauge is not picking up all the codes, had a friend at a shop put his nice matco scanner on it, and it threw P0304, P0307, P0112, and P0300.

But at least the Amigos are gone.

Anyone want to buy a rover?
Could be a real stupid question but I don't seem to notice any problem yet have the codes saying misfire, mass air flow and ox sensor... AND the guy I bought it from said he only used cheap gas which probably didn't help...I have used premium, put a new battery but I suspect the oxygen sensors are in need of replacement just because it's 14 years old. Would low grade gas mess the o2 sensors up? Was told plugs and wires are new and they appear it

Talking Victory is mine!

In the year of our Lord, 1776, George Washington sent the dirty redcoat limeys packing. He was undermanned, outgunned, and got the job done on grit, determination, know-how, and the size of his cojones after long years of bloody battles.

I kinda feel like that right now.

Coils replaced in UNDER 2 hours, including IM removal. Found the #7 pin was fried out, and the wiring harness to #7 injector was not snugged down all the way. Fixed that with the finesse of a 200 year old flintlock rifleman hiding behind a tree, aiming for the big hats.

After putting it all together, and an hour laying on my stomach over the engine bay (thank bejesus for all that crossfit), my knuckles bloody and greasy, and the dog thinks I'm insane...

IT'S ALIVE!! RUNS LIKE THE HOUNDS OF HELL!

Celebratory trip, MISFIRE FREE, to the store for some american beer.

Acceleration, low speed, high speed, idle, cold, hot whatever.

Take THAT Tata motors!

Cheers gents. Thank you to everyone for the help. The beer is helping to wash away my earlier stupid comment about "coils don't usually get reported as curing misfires".

Sorry about that...

So these are 2.25 inch inlets. Did the Y-pipe go over or inside the Cat pipe before being welded?

@Seamus - 02's have a lifespan, and I don't think low octane fuel is the issue. The "bad gas" myth is just that. A myth. There are almost no gas stations that have low enough fuel turnover to have it varnish in their tanks. Diesel is another story...test your 02 voltages and you'll know for sure.

@cbracerX - cats at 2.25" are SLIGHTLY larger than stock y-pipe. Just clean your pipes REALLY WELL before making welds and be sure to lay a tight bead and you'll be fine. Those aftermarket ones have SS bodies, so a different filler rod/wire is needed. It's technically a braze, not a weld, but, if done properly, braze has about 60,000psi tensile strength, and welding has about 70-80K. Not going to matter on thin wall pipe.

Wow! Another successful thread! Congratulations;I know that is an amazing feeling.

And thanks for posting all of your progress.

Note for posterity: our exhaust pipes, pre-y is 2 inch inner diameter and 2 1/8 outer diameter. That is an odd size. I will admit that I gave up no mine after messing with it for a month and just ordered a new y pipe with cats. Atl is a true warrior.

Reading this thread has given me that warm fuzzy feeling knowing that I soon too will have to replace coils...Replaced my plugs about 2 weeks ago to plus 4's. Started having misfires after a week, cyls 1 and 6. Currently STI wires... Have new wires coming Monday because it needs them. But I suspected I had a bad coil, reading this almost verifies. Going to build a bridge over the engine out of 2x6 and plywood so I have something to sit/lay/sleep on while changing wires.

Thanks for a good post!!

Thank you and with all these helpful posts I am confident I'll get at least a solid year out of my very cheaply bought yet running like champ 2000 Disco 2. Next up shuttle valve bypass (b) but I'm making sure I can bleed the brakes FIRST. Plus I've only had it a week or two. Love this truck
