Thanks for a good post!!
Remove the hood. You will love the space it creates. Just outline the current hinges with a paint pen and unbolt. Super light weight...it is aluminum for the most part. I can remove and install myself...but I have a long wing span. Two people is easier.

For the record:

Having been there, done that, I would ALWAYS recommend taking off IM when doing coils, and even spark plug wires.

the removal is neither hard nor time consuming, and the extra space it creates for working is awesome. I did the non-IM wire replacement, and it sucked.

A topside creeper would be nice, but a tripled-up moving blanket will keep your stomach from visibly bruising....depending. I'm 5'11 and 175 soaking wet.

If I had to do it all over again, on another truck, I'd just make the coils, wires and plugs one job and be done with it. O'reilly sold me the coil pack for about $105, and based on time/PITA factor, its WAAAAY easier to just pull the IM, do coils and wires and plugs and know its all copacetic.

It took a lot longer to swap wires without taking off IM than it did to change coils and re-route all the wires. By at least an hour.

The hood removal does seem like a good idea though, next time something pops up, I'll ****** it off there and see the difference.

Thanks again for the support guys/gals. They're solvable, just keep digging.

personally; i put set a car ramps on either side of the truck and worked off of them, never really had a need to climb in, never removed the hood either just open it all the way back to the windshield.

you don't have to replace them in pairs, but if I were doing it I would replace both.

I second that notion drowsap. If you are in there to replace 1.. replace the other. It will get all poopy eventually.

Took out my coils today. Removed manifold. I now truly believe that this vehicle was built entirely around the coils... Engineers managed to levitate the coils, and then started the design. And last minute, a true genius on the on the R&D team said, "let's throw in a really cool feature, SAI. It'll be neat!!!".

I removed the hood. Used the ramps on either side for steps. Cut the studs shorter for the SAI bracket on the pass side. Don't know why they stuck out 1/2" past the nuts anyway. Broke "some" coolant line. Don't remember which one at this point.

I'm glad I don't have all the parts to put it back together, today's fun should wear off in a week or so.

First: Thank everyone for all the helpful posts it's amazing!!

Yep that's the plan. Then I need to figure out just exactly which part of my power steering seems to be absent. Definitely need all sorts if little "things" that kinda sorta make up a front end.

I m glad I enjoy learning, getting greasy and fixing/breaking things...my rover has it all
