Thanks for all the help.
I replaced my sparkplug wires with the ones from the original engine, cleared codes and tried again...
It now will not start (which seems like a bad thing) but it sounds better, if that's possible. the only code that shows now is P1668... Any ideas as to how to deal with immobilizer issue?

Default Is it this?

Is this my option for code 1668?

The code is recorded on the security information card and is entered as follows:
Using the key, turn the driver's door lock to the UNLOCK position and hold in this position for at least 5 seconds. An audible warning is then emitted to indicate that the body control unit is ready to accept the code. Return the key to the centre position. It is now possible to use the key to enter the separate numerical values of the four digits that make up the EKA code.
Enter the first digit of the code. If the first digit is 4, turn the key to the UNLOCK position 4 times. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.
Enter the second digit of the code. If the second digit is 3, turn the key to the LOCK position 3 times. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.
Enter the third digit of the code. If the third digit is 2, turn the key to the UNLOCK position twice. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.
Enter the fourth digit of the code. If the fourth digit is 1, turn the key to the LOCK position once. Ensure the key is fully returned to the centre position after each turn of the key.
Finally, turn the key to the UNLOCK position and back to the centre position, a double bleep will indicate that the code has been entered correctly. A single bleep indicates that the code has been entered incorrectly.

Then, before opening the door, wait 5 minutes for the alarm and immobiliser to be de-activated. During the 5 minute wait for the alarm and immobiliser to be de-activated, the alarm indicator LED in the instrument pack continues to flash (one flash every 2 seconds). DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR OR ATTEMPT TO ENTER THE CAR until the full delay period has elapsed.

When the 5 minute wait has elapsed, the alarm indicator LED stops flashing. Immediately open the door, insert the key in the ignition switch and turn the switch to position II. If the ignition switch is not turned to position II within 30 seconds of the end of the 5 minute wait, the engine is automatically immobilised again.
The EKA code will not be recognised if there is an interval of 10 seconds or more between key turns or if the key is held turned for 5 seconds or more during the procedure.

In some system configurations a successful EKA code entry is indicated by the audible warning device pulsing twice for a period of 50 ms on, 200 ms off. The theft deterrent LED is switched on for 1 second, all doors unlock, the alarm disarms and the vehicle is remobilised allowing the engine to start.

If an incorrect code is entered, an audible warning is emitted and the procedure must be repeated. Up to a maximum of 10 attempts to enter the code is possible. After 10 attempts, the BCU will not allow any further codes to be entered for a period of 10 minutes.

With no security code in hand... I assume I will need to contact rover for the code. Has anyone had any luck with this as an option for bypassing/resetting the immobilizer? I've cleared the codes several times, unplugged the battery (RECHARGED IT) and still shows the same 1668 code. Car will not start or even run rough like it did with other wires in it...

Getting a bit frustrated after an entire motor rebuild.

Any help would be great.

Just checked the fuel regulator via pressure at strader valve... 38PSI. so it is getting spark and fuel.

still has 1668 code...

Default Yes.

The starter turns it over. fast enough and long enough that it should start. It did the same before I switched the wires (only started and ran very rough, as though it was out of time). Now it only turns over. no codes except 1668. The spark plug wiring is correct. Checked to see if spark (or made my teenaged son hold the end of a screwdriver as I turned it over), and it does

I believe that if you were immobilized, the stater relay is impacted.

Input/Output
The LED has a dedicated signal from the BCU to indicate the status of the following:
l
Alarm armed: The LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle for 10 seconds, after which the LED flashes 50
ms on, 2 seconds off until the state of the system changes.

l
Engine immobilised: If the engine is immobilised and the ignition is on, the LED is illuminated continuously. If the
engine is immobilised and the ignition is off, the LED flashes 50 ms on, 2 seconds off.

l
Alarm tampered: If the alarm has been triggered, the LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle.

l
Handset battery low indicator: If the handset battery is low, the driver's door is open and the ignition is switched

off, the LED flashes two pulses of 50 ms on, 50 ms off, every 10 seconds.

Found this on 1668:

Found more info on Fault Code P1668:

Failure to Start - "Passive Immobilization" Enabled

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Discovery Series II (LT) All

SITUATION:

VEHICLE MAY NOT CRANK AFTER BEING UNLOCKED

The customer may complain that occasionally the vehicle will not crank. This may be because the Non-NAS Passive Immobilization feature has been accidentally turned on in production or during repair operations.

If Passive Immobilization is enabled, the vehicle will immobilize itself if the ignition key is not turned to position "II" or the engine is not started within 30 seconds of unlocking the vehicle. With the ignition key in position "II", the vehicle will show that it is in the immobilized state by illuminating the alarm LED continuously. The engine will not crank if the ignition key is turned in an attempt to start the engine.

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE BCU WITH NEW OR RE-PROGRAMMED UNIT

To turn off the Passive Immobilization feature, replace the BCU with a new unit ensuring that the proper installation procedure is followed. Alternatively, after contacting the LRNA HelpLine send the original BCU to Land Rover to be re-programmed and install the re-programmed unit ensuring that the proper installation procedure is followed.

PARTS INFORMATION:

Install new or re-programmed BCU

FAULT CODE: A

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply

REPAIR PROCEDURE

SYMPTOM VERIFICATION OF ACTIVATED PASSIVE IMMOBILIZATION

1. Unlock the vehicle and wait one minute.

2. With the ignition off, verify that the anti-theft alarm LED in the instrument pack blinks slowly.

3. Turn the ignition key to position "II" and verify the alarm LED is on continuously. This indicates an immobilized condition.

4. Check that Passive Immobilization is on by attempting to start the vehicle with the LED on continuously.

5. If the vehicle does not start, confirm that Passive Immobilization is turned on as follows:

^ Turn off ignition and remove the key.

^ Press the unlock button on the plip once.

^ Attempt to restart the vehicle within 30 seconds.

^ If the vehicle starts normally, Passive Immobilization is activated. The BCU must be replaced or reprogrammed by Land Rover after contacting the LRNA HelpLine.

TESTBOOK VERIFICATION OF ACTIVATED "PASSIVE IMMOBILIZATION"

NOTE: The Bosch Engine Management ECU may flag a P1668 Fault Code if an attempt to start the vehicle is made when Passive Immobilization is activated. This will only be evident by interrogating the Bosch Engine Management ECU with TestBook. The fault will not turn on the Check Engine (MIL) lamp.

1. Using TestBook, verify Passive Immobilization is enabled as follows:

^ Select Vehicle Configuration.

^ Select Dealer Configuration.

^ Select "CLASS" (Corporate Locking and Alarm Security Strategy).

^ Note the status of Passive Immobilization.

2. If Passive Immobilization shows "Disabled" the setting is correct for North American vehicles and the no-start/no-crank condition has another cause.

3. If Passive Immobilization shows "Enabled" the BCU must be replaced to provide the customer with the standard North American configuration. Two options are available:

^ Return BCU to Land Rover for reprogramming and install the reprogrammed BCU with proper menu selections.

^ Install a new BCU from parts inventory and install with proper menu selections as outlined in TIB 86/03/01/NAS.

4. Call the Land Rover Technical HelpLine for approval before you replace a BCU or ship a BCU to Land Rover.

OPTION 1: RE-PROGRAM EXISTING BCU TO TURN OFF PASSIVE IMMOBILIZATION

NOTE: Because the "Passive Immobilization" is a security-related feature, there is no way to turn off this feature with TestBook. Land Rover has the ability to perform this function using special software. Land Rover will FedEx the BCU back to the retailer on the day received.

1. Verify that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

CAUTION: The negative cable removal must be performed within 30 seconds of pressing the plip button.

2. Perform the following steps within 30 seconds:

^ Press the unlock button on the plip.

^ Immediately remove the negative battery cable from the battery.

3. Refer to the Workshop Manual and remove the BCU from the vehicle.

4. Send the BCU via FedEx to Land Rover North America Inc. for reprogramming and return.

5. Refer to the Workshop Manual and install the re-programmed BCU.

OPTION 2: INSTALL NEW BCU TO TURN OFF PASSIVE IMMOBILIZATION

CAUTION: When installing a new BCU, the default is "Passive Armed." Failing to follow the BCU installation/replacement process correctly could cause Passive Immobilization to be turned on again.

1. Refer to the Workshop Manual and install a new BCU.

2. Refer to TIB 86/03/01/NAS and follow the installation/replacement procedure carefully to ensure that the BCU is installed correctly and that "Passive" is turned OFF.

Default Advice

So, the problem didn't just go away (bummer). I'm very concerned that a simple change in wires took it from starting a running rough to not starting at all, so since I've done all this work... what the heck, I should probably put new wires on it anyway.

I will get back to you when I've replaced them with Magnacore wires. Anyone out there ever have code 1668 when you've switched out motors?

Thanks

I don't think the cause of the P1668 code is keeping it from starting. When immobilised, the engine will not crank. When you replaced the wires, did you route them correctly?

Default New wires and replaced Crankshaft sensor

Ok, new wires (routed correctly) and replaced the sensor, cleared codes.

Still not starting, still shows 1668 as a code.

any ideas as to where to go from here?

Thanks,

See attached.

The inertia switch controls the main relay in the fuse box (underhood) along with the ECU.

The Main relay controls the fuel pump relay, along with the ECU.

The starter relay is controlled by the BCU.

From the RAVE - read all of this:

General
The Body Control Unit (BCU) is located behind the passenger glovebox and is connected to the main harness by four
connectors on its bottom edge and an additional connector located on the side of the BCU casing. Mounting the BCU
behind the fascia makes it reasonably inaccessible for intruders to disable the anti-theft system.
The BCU uses solid-state microprocessor control to perform logical operations and timing functions for a variety of
the vehicle's electrically operated systems, these include:

l
Door locking.
l

Anti-theft alarm and immobilisation system.
l

Exterior lighting including direction indicators and hazard warning lamps.
l

Courtesy lighting.
l

Wipers and washers.
l

Electric windows and sunroof.
l

Heated windows.
The BCU also communicates with several other electronically controlled systems such as the EAT ECU and SLABS
ECU and also has a datalink between the Intelligent Driver Module (IDM) and the instrument pack. The datalink is a
low speed bus capable of transmitting and receiving messages at a data rate of 10,400 bits per second. Additional
inputs and outputs to peripheral devices are included which are necessary for determining vehicle status for particular
logical operations e.g. crank, ignition key inserted, fuel flap enable etc.
The BCU receives its power supply from the engine compartment fuse box, and is protected by a 10 A fuse.
The BCU communicates with the IDM to provide the control signals to perform power switching operations in
conjunction with dedicated relays.
IDM
The IDM is integrated into the passenger compartment fuse box, which is mounted behind the fascia below the
steering column. There are no harnesses between the fuse box and the IDM. The IDM performs the power switching
operations for several of the vehicle's electrical systems.
The IDM communicates with the BCU and the instrument pack via a serial interface. If the BCU or the IDM is replaced,
the communications link between the two units has to be re-established. This can be done either by switching on the
ignition and leaving it on for five minutes, or by using TestBook. The vehicle immobilisation will remain active until the
communications link between the BCU and IDM has been re-established.

From the above I would suspect that a cable could be lose, or wire pinched. Maybe fuse blown. Would try unplug/replug all connectors on the BCU, then re-sync by leaving ignition of for 5 - 10 minutes.
