I think I see. So you are saying that because of the external design, not because of internal computer programming, the nature of the beast is to run even hotter because the the remote stat is exposed to blast cooling. This seems like a double edged sword, running hotter than we do in the summer, and stressing internal components even more. Perhaps the remote stat and lines should be wrapped with insulating foam. I do that for hot water heaters and steam lines.

The winter time is when the stat would be more likely to open/close as opposed to partially open for long periods. That constant cycling up/down of temp over a wider swing won't help matters.

Think about it. In the summer, you would not want to be running 212 on the highway at 60mph. Why would you want to be running 260 in the winter? Perhaps it is not as bad as I babble about. It would be good for one of the Ultra Gauge or scanner owners in the frozen North to post about their winter temps on their daily driver route. It may be that only in really cold places, where you need cardboard over the radiator in your pickup, that this becomes an issue.

The old stat inside the block design wasn't so bad after all.

Not sure if the insulation idea will help with engine longevity but it certainly would help the environment by collecting leaking fluids!
