I love reading about folks who get deals like this and make it really cool. Well done (but you still suck as I have double your total investment in now and only mildly ahead of you, save the bumper).

Speaking of bumper, what about the washer fluid tank hanging down? Is there a fix or relocation for this? And you are making me think more and more about doing a mild lift on mine. Oh yeah, with the larger tires, any noticeable difference in performance? Do you think you ned to re gear?

 

LOL, thanks! Yeah I know I got lucky! I had a legitimate offer for $5,500 last night that I turned down. I just love this thing so much.

I've seen a video of a guy that relocated the tank to the rear passenger side of the engine compartment, so I eventually plan on doing that. Regarding gearing - no plans yet, as financially it doesn't make sense as this is a toy that will rarely go deep off-road, just light stuff. As far as performance, it's definitely slower, and that's saying something! The tranny has to shift a lot sooner to maintain speed, but I was ready for that.

 

Ok, thanks. You're doing a great job on it. I'm a Disco noob, but learning as I go (and the list continues to grow) but really enjoy driving it. Even for what I have invested, the $$$ saved from a newer car will buy A LOT of fuel, so I'm not complaining about the abysmal economy.

 

Yeah I think I got 10mpg my first tank but had it in sport mode and drove it like I do my BMW's. Much better this tank, but anything over 11mpg will be a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

 

As a recovering E30 addict (my first rear steer car after being a VW nut for a while) I totally understand. If we didn't move to UT, I was going to start shopping for an E60 or E39 M5 (kids make a sedan a requirement), so thus the Disco has become the minivan.

And I must really drive like a grandma as I'm getting about 12 on every tank despite the Voyager roof rack on there. I'm babying it until the weather clears a bit and I can do a tranny service to make sure it's good.

 

Three questions if you don't mind.
A: what exactly makes the terrafima lift 3" as apposed to their 2" or OME's 2"? Is it just their "heavy" coils?
B: do you know how much that front bumper weighs?
C: do you know the backspacing on those cragers?

awesome rig so far for so cheap.

 

Relocated my washer bottle, pretty easy, just removed my SAI pump, made a couple small brackets and hung it on the firewall, rerouted/extended wiring harness and hoses, shorten filler tube, relocated interia switch...took about two hours total.

One question...

How much clearance between the rear mounted tire and bumper?

Was thinking about 235/85's...but the door opening and closing concerned me.

Wifie drives a modified R500 everyday, so that's a close to a minivan as I'll allow!

1. Yeah, just longer coils. Shocks are the same. You can get their upgraded kit with longer rear brake lines and sway links, but the standard 3" looked good for me as I doubt I'll ever be at full flex in this thing, just light forest service roads.

2. Front bumper was pretty light - I think the shipping label said 75lbs.

3. 16x7+0 so, 4". +25 would have been a better fit, but they were backordered forever and these were super cheap - $396.60 shipped for five of them.

Sorry for the thread jack, but what did you do with the SAI pump? I've got one and don't really know much about it. Can it just be removed?
