Default My back up lights came on today,....while the truck was off and locked

A fellow worker came in to tell me that my back up lights were on, on my 2003 disco earlier today,.....the truck was locked up and in park,....no key in the ignition.

As I don't need to drive it, I just disconnected the battery, so it wouldn't drain down.

A few days ago, the power locks. interior light and OBD2 port that weren't working all started working,.....after not working for a month or so,.....wondering if these are all related, and if I might maybe have a fuse block issue.

Any thoughts on what might cause this

Haven't had this problem, but guessing maybe a grounding issue for the interior items. The electrical schematics should show if these items shunt through a common ground or connector that needs attention.

The backup lights are getting power in park, when should only be getting power in reverse. I presume the switch is stuck closed and not releasing when the gear selector is moved out of reverse. Probably needs cleaning, or some part is broken. I haven't worked on one, so not sure of LR's setup, but should be just under the gear selector at the reverse slot.

Thanks, good thought on those 3 circuits sharing a ground. On the back up lights,.. That makes sense,.......BUT,......without the key in the ignition,....I wouldn't think the reverse light circuit would have power to it. Think I'll pull up the cover around the gear selector and have a look around.

According to the DII electrical library PDF and the RAVE, the reverse lights are powered directly from the XYZ switch, not from any separate switch under the gear selector cover.

Do you have any other XYZ switch symptoms? Do the correct PRND321 characters appear in the instrument panel LCD display when the shifter is moved through the gears? Do the correct red LEDs illuminate on the gear selector cover when the shifter is moved through the gears?

That said, according to the DII electrical circuits PDF the XYZ should not get power with the ignition switch in the OFF position.

Interesting. Not up on The XYZ issues,.....I'll check to see if gear indicators are working on the dash and center console.
