My Discovery keeps overheating, What can I do?
[QUOTE=darts180cars;313300]hi,
I have a W reg Land Rover Discovery TD5 (Auto) and it keeps overheating on long (ish) journeys. It does roughly 50 miles then overheats and pours water out of the pressure cap, I have changed the pressure cap and the thermostat. I guess the water is circulating properly because i have heat inside the car when the car is revving, but when stationary for a while, it starts to blow through cold. I have also fitted a new power steering pump, but do these cars have problems with the Water Pump? the car can run for hours without the pressure cap on outside. Theres no signs of oil in the water and no smoke coming out of the exhaust. Can you help, or give me advice of what to do .
I had the same problem and after fitting an extra radiator pressure cap my problem is solved. I fitted the inline fitting with a .9bar radiator cap from a Hyundy which I obtained from a local junk yard.. Send me your info and I will send you pictures of what I did. "Slipped sleeve may also be happening but would also need a cracked block to allow water to escape, would make gurgle sounds under dash, loss of coolant, and white smoke from exhaust."
Are you saying that if I hear the gurgle under the dash, I lose coolant, and I have white smoke from the exhaused that I have not only a slipped sleeve, but, a cracked block?!

@Hendo6119 1st off this is 5 year old thread stat a new one. Give all the symptoms so people can actually help you.
Ignore slipped liners and cracked blocks to start. If you have these symptoms :
Gurgle is just air in the cooling systems
Ignore slipped liners and cracked blocks to start. If you have these symptoms :
- Overpressue - you get coolant dumping on the ground from teh overflow line
- Heavy white smoke - not the grey stuff you get on a cold damp morning when you start. If that white does not go away after drive for 20 minute or just gets less dense
Gurgle is just air in the cooling systems
