Consider the mod of an Ultra gauge, about $70, code reader, data scanner, display for data you select (like coolant temp) and alarm points for same.

I just looked at the original sale sticker and the color is Giverny Green. I'll be sporting an oil change today with Mobil 301 filter and Rotella Shell 15w-40 as recommended.

I probably need to order thermostat first as I imagine this isn't one that can be picked up locally (the thermo stated in the thread that runs it 10 degrees cooler.) I do have the red dex coolant so will be doing a flush and fill 2 times with distilled water and replacing with 50/50 peak.

I checked the front (short) driveshaft and there is absolutely no play in it. It almost looks new (shiny black) so I'm not sure if previous owner had done preventive maintenance already and replaced it to avoid screwing the transmission. Will look into it more..

Until then, oil change while having some beers.

the t-stat cam be purchased at lucky 8, amazon or ebay about $35.00, or you can get a Freelander t-stat from a dealer for 2-3 times as much.
On the front drive shaft you really have to count the grease fitting especially on the transmission end. They can go without any notice costing seveal thousand dollars in damage.

Drowssap,

Is that the short shaft up front between the tranny and transfer case? I crawled underneath it yesterday and didn't feel any grease nips but will look again today. Guess I will be holding off on coolant flush today since I'll need to order the thermostat Motorad 180.
