my LR starts unusual

So the mechanic told you about the same switch that I was talking about on the clutch pedal.
I wish it had been that for you and not the pilot bearing.
Let us know how you make out with this, sounds like you may need a new transmission.

actually if i am not mistaken.. LR disco 2 doesnt have a pilot bearing.. does it?? what i found broken was the shaft top bearing..instead of pilot bearing there is a ring like thing which serves the purpose of pilot bearing in keeping the shaft in the center... am i right??? and that ring was also broken.. what do we call that ring?
