I understand, I had my '96 p38 & my wife was driving the '97 DI.

I really reget selling my RR, even with gas prices.

She now drives a 38mpg Suzuki, I took the DI back and have convinced her that it's not safe for her to drive.

luck,greg

Thumbs up i am

As for the ticking, if that shaft went, odds are something is loose. The exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking, so don't rule that out.

Glad you got her going quietly. You may want to go through your old case. I am sure there are a few people with 03's that would buy it.

i am doing the rebuild...Thanks for the cracking info..i will have to check for that..I am also going to rebuild the transfer case and then sell it to see what i can recoup on the one i got. If i break even i am happy and maybe help someone else out..

Thanks Chris

Thumbs up 1 leak found

I found one leak this morning between where the intermediate and front pipe assembly join. I started it up and got underneith and could feel the exhaust and see the condinsation comming from that joint. I see the rave shows no gasget there. It looks as if the joint in not perfectly strait hense the leak. Any suggestions on sealing this one up. I will be going over all the manifold bolts as this noise is driving me nuts. If i had a deisel i wouldnt care .

Thanks Chris

So it is from the downpipe to the muffler? Pretty sure there should be an exhaust olive in there.

You have a gasket from the block to the manifold, manifold to down pipe( also called the Y pipe, with the cats), and then an olive gasket from the y pipe to the muffler.

The rave does not show the olive gasget...is that a land rover part?

Well, it sure doesn't.. I haven't torn into my D2 yet, but I know my D1 does. You can get them at any muffler shop, and I have never seen a connection like that that doesn't have one.

Swing by a muffler shop and ask about a free inspection. They replaced mine for $10. The shop may just be able to align it properly. Stuff like that I like to take to shops because they have a lift and impacts. It is worth the little extra $$ to let someone do a little job like that.

Unhappy Bad News...

Well today did not go well at all. The more i dig into this rig the more i want to cut my losses.. I think this truck was in a accident. Here why i think it was.

Tranfercase was really grinding. The back crossbar was missing and bolts where cut off at the frame mount.

Apon looking at the front crosbar i see it to has been cut off before as only two screws on each side are in the other 4 have been cut off as they are still in the mount.

The guy who did the transfercase told me that the transmission had been replaced.

I have a exhaust leak at the Y pipe that connects to the scilencer . They dont make a gasket for that connection and when i took to a muffler shop they told me to get new connectors and they would cut the old ones off and weld on new ones to keep it stock.

The driversside cat is right against the frame the muffler guy pointed out. Maybe a bad motor mount .

The windshield leaks air, but not water like crazy. Its like the windows cracked.

So today i am going over the truck like i am looking for a bomb and notice that the front bumper is not strait as at the bottom of the headlights on the passenger side , it has a 3/8" clearence and on the drivers side it is touching the bottom of the headlight. i now go to the back of the truck and it's the opposite.Hemmmm

At a stop when in drive, i now hear a slight metal rattle from underneith . If you put in neutral it stops. I had the wife get in so i could get underneith and could not hear it like when i am in the car with the windows up.

It also shakes at 65-70 and think that would explain some sort of crash or catostrophic drive shaft blowout..

I am going back tomorrow and see if i can return the truck. If not will fix the crap and sell it to get my money back out. What a pisser....

Will keep updated..
