My observations with 180 degree thermostats...
Quick update...
Britpart is running great. I think it flows more coolant than the grey, but opens at the same temps.
199-201 hot idle (down from 206-208)
186-194 moving temps (down from 194-203)
This is with the heat off on a 90F day
I'm happy, I think I'm in the sweet spot... I don't really want to run any cooler
I'll tell you what... I've fiddled with and replaced every possible cooling component (swapping in HD fan/clutch, new radiator, sensor, water pump, you name it), and the only part that ever seemed to make a difference in temps (for better or worse), was the thermostat

I would 100% agree with the original poster. I purchased a 180 Genuine T-Stat from Rimmer Bros. It completely refuses to open. I am out almost $100 USD with overnight shipping and tax.
Rimmer Bros has an intentionally complicated return policy; designed to discourage buyers from returning defective or incorrect products. They want me to fill out a red-tape form providing private/personal information - and pay for everything to be returned. Then hand everything over to Land Rover in UK. Then Land Rover UK decides if the defective T-stat claim is warranted. They shift accountability to Land Rover, point the finger at them; and tell me the decision is out of their hands. I will never purchase anything from Rimmer Bros again.
This is the second defective 180 genuine LR T-Stat I've received. The third won't even open. Not sure if there are some new quality control issues at LR or what.
I am installing the Black Brit Part 178 today.

Inline 180 here. PO126 frequently in cooler weather. Didn't see it today when startup was in the high 40's. I know its been said that not everyone experiences that, but the temp differential is higher when the startup temp is colder I'd expect. Been a long cold winter in Missouri. I've never seen 195 since I went inline.

Think about how they open...especially that hide that comes off that T.
LET IT CYCLE.
SHEESH.
Actually how much did you pay for it? I've been begging anyone here to send me their faulty stats and I have yet to get one.

Hi guys, yesterday I installed a LR oginal 180 t stat marked PEL 500110 and works jus fine, I saw what u said about it and worried me a little, but today I travel around 50 miles with 96.8 degrees and going downhill 183.4 - 187 during stops, in the city 97 degree weather, 190 - 195 F at short idle because traffic, then uphill 194 - 195.6 at 50 - 60 miles per hour. I will try on steeper hills and using 4wd and see my highest temp, let u know asap... hope this helps...
But as far as I can see, original LR t stat works fine...

Send me your address, I have a bucket full.
They work when they work but when they fail closed like mine did it’s head gasket time lol
I caught mine at 240 degrees let it cool and went to the inline thermostat. Much better temps and performance. I think the colder coolant temp. Is advancing timing

Thanks, whats inline thermostat? I agree on getting things colder, thats the main reason for change to original 180 degrees t,stat... im confused! Is there other way to avoid major failures with another t stat?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
yes we have a member here that sells the inline thermostat kit it takes less than 1 hour to install and you will love the new temperatures
