What I meant is this isn't something I can do on a Saturday on my own.

I read this on another forum - "You don't need to drop the oil pan, it's visible through the round hole on the bell housing." At least we can get an idea of cracking or damage.

Any thoughts on if this problem would be more pronounced at hot idle once everything is expanding? Maybe the heat opens the cracks up enough to cause a diesel type rattle

Excellent. Can you let me know who your tech is? I'm in North Jersey and get down there sometimes for work. Wouldn't hurt for me to stop by and have him take a listen if it was the same. I don't know any LR specialists/techs up this way and would rather have someone who has been there/done that.

Sure. ROVER REPAIRS OF COLLINGDALE. Ask for Frank, owner and LR Master Tech.

Side note. Frank diagnosed the issue, but he sent the truck to a trans shop for the labor/flex plate install.

My apologies. If you have the will, absolutely. I would try inspecting for cracks by looking through the bellhousing hole first. If you need to vet more through with your inspection drop the oil pan. Good Luck!

Make sure you tell him Eric with the Black "once ticking" DII, referred you. He is a very honest and sincere guy. He will look at your truck just for the joy of finding out what's wrong with it and not charge you. Obviously, if it needs repair you'll get charged.

Will do and thanks. Any reason he didn't do the work himself? I have a few odds and ends I would like taken care of. Things I will do myself, but if I had it in one place would rather pay a few bucks to have handled.

what year D2 was this? I have a ticking noise but when it's cold no noise when the truck gets warmer is when it starts and only does at Idle, sometimes louder than others and as soon as I rev engine up a bit past say 1500 it goes away. I'm a auto tech and I will put it on the lift today and try to inspect without taking down the pan. On a lot of Domestic cars I have seen this, I just do not work on many Land Rovers until owning mine.

also mine just hit 65000 miles been doing it for about 4000 miles now

Mark
